What is the monkey business around new Super Eagles call-up Owen Oseni?

Questions are now being asked about the justification behind selecting a striker from the English third-tier, Owen Oseni, ahead of more accomplished players for the Super Eagles friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Oseni has been considered ahead of Rafiu Durosinmi, who this outgoing season featured in the Italian Serie A, as well as Femi Azeez of Millwall, who is generally regarded as one of the best players in the higher English Championship this past term.

This comes amid allegations of underhand business in team selection in the Super Eagles.

A quick search showed that 23-year-old Oseni scored seven goals and made three assists in 27 appearances for Plymouth this past season.

The search further showed that this particular player last played for Plymouth in April and so did not feature in his team’s four matches to the end of the season.

These are certainly not eye-popping stats even in the third division in England.

Is this not another case of a big man imposing a player on the national team to the detriment of the country as it was during the failed qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup?

Flying Eagles winger completes Saudi Arabia switch

Flying Eagles winger Sani Suleiman has officially sealed a permanent transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah.

He did his routine medicals in Madrid, Spain, before he headed out to Saudi Arabia.

The 20-year-old winger failed to meet high expectations at Bundesliga club RB Liepzig, when he signed up in January.

The transfer to Saudi Arabia is worth around 10 million euros.

He has now signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional year.

Falconets get Semenya boost for World Cup clash vs China

Falconets of Nigeria have received a major boost ahead of today’s crucial U20 World Cup clash against China after Benfica striker Janet ‘Semenya’ Akekoromowei rejoined the squad.

Nigeria have been in a tug-of-war with Benfica over the striker’s release for the World Cup.

She was the first player to arrive in Poland for the tournament only for her Portuguese club to order her back to base after claiming they did not clear her for the competition.

The Falconets lacked fire power when they fell 2-0 to European champions Spain in their opening group game and Semenya, who has been capped by both the Super Falcons and Flamingos, will now be expected to be thier main goals threat.

China re top of the group after a 5-0 bashing of debutants New Caledonia.

Super Eagles hopeful wins Goal of the Week

Al Ittihad striker George Ilenikhena, who could be called up for Super Eagles forthcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea Bissau, has been rewarded for his fine form in Saudi Arabia with the Goal of the Week.

One of his two goals in the 2-1 victory over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr won him the top prize.

In the absence of injured Victor Osimhen, Ilenikhena, who was born in Lagos but previously played for the France age-grade teams, could well be poised for his Super Eagles debut later this month.

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle liked the post.

Eric Chelle has convinced the 20-year-old striker to change international allegiance to the Super Eagles after following him while he was still playing in France with AS Monaco.
