Sports247 reports that, despite enacting historic goals that helped the team win the Scottish Premiership and FA Cup double within a week apart, Iheanacho is yet to receive assurances of a contract extension, which has filled him with apprehension.
The most valuable player of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup had been hoping for a return to still waters, following a bad patch at Sevilla of Spain and ill-fated loan move to Southampton in the Championship, but his future remains uncertain.
This much was revealed by Celtic’s coach, Martin O’Neill, who confirmed that there is lingering uncertainty over Iheanacho’s future, but admitted he is unable to give the star any guarantees due to his own unresolved situation at the club.
O’Neill told The Scotsman, “Iheanacho keeps asking me! ‘What do you think, are they going to keep me? Don’t ask me, I am not the manager anymore. He stopped me in the lift. ‘Are you staying?’ I have no idea, just concentrate on the game.”
Sports247 recalls that Iheanacho, who hit nine goals in 24 games for Celtic this season, joined the Glasgow-based side on a year’s deal last summer, with the club holding an option to extend his contract for another term depending on performance.
