Uganda She Cranes humiliated Trindad & Tobago 80-34 to register their second victory at the on-going 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, 25th July at the Hydro complex in Scotland.
Throughout the four quarters, Uganda was dominant with a master-minded performance at the preliminary round stage.
Uganda led the first quarter by a margin of nine goals; winning 19-10.
By half-time, the writing was spelt on the line that Uganda was destined for victory, leading 40-19 having won 21-9.
The trend continued in the third quarter; with Uganda winning 16-11 to extend the dominance to 56-20.
By the third quarter, towering Goal shooter Mary Cholhok led the scoring business with 32 goals.
Haniisha Mohameed, Alice Isoto, Racheal Nanyonga and Shadiah Nassanga each had their bargain of goals with 8 goals apiece.
The East African netball giants also won the fourth quarter 24-06 to wrap the evening on a high note; 80-34.
The game was officiated by Jamaica’s Tracy-Ann Griffiths and New Zealand’s Ken Metekingi.
Great Britain’s Gary Burgess was reserve umpire.
On Saturday, Uganda opened with a 59-50 victory over Wales during game one; winning the opening quarter 15-13.
Wales clawed back to lead 31-28 by the half-time mark. Uganda restored their lead by close of the third quarter 45-39 and winded down the business 59-50 at the end of the game.
In the third game, Uganda will face Jamaica on Monday, 27th July 2026.

Uganda’s first medal at the on-going 2026 Commonwealth Games was won by Husnah Kukundakwe in the sport of swimming.
The para-swimmer deservedly earned silver in the women’s 100M breaststroke SB8 final.
She clocked 1:26.20 during the finale won by England’s Brock Whiston who earned a new game’s record time of 1:22.05.
Another swimmer from England Lona Winnifrith won bronze with a time of 1:26.31.
Two Australian swimmers Alyssa Gillespie and Gemma Sellick were fourth and fifth respectively with 1:32.80 and 1:33.95.
England’s Isabella Haynes finish sixth overall with 1:34.35.
Kukundakwe has earned Uganda her first medal at the championship.
Uganda joins the likes of Cyprus, Jersey, Samoa, Nauru, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda, among the countries that have won one medal apiece.
By Monday evening, Australia was still in the lead with a massive overhaul of 59 medals, followed by England (29), Canada (21), Scotland (11), South Africa (11) and Nigeria (10).

GLASGOW (Made In Africa Sport) – Former African 100m record holder Olusoji Fasuba believes Kanyinsola Ajayi has the ability to become one of the continent’s greatest sprinters as Team Nigeria completes its preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s opening ceremony in Glasgow, Fasuba praised the 21-year-old’s rapid progress and said his consistency had marked him out as one of the world’s emerging sprint talents.
“Kanyinsola Ajayi’s progress has been exceptional,” Fasuba told THISDAY.
“What stands him out is the consistency of his improvement. He has shown that he can compete with the very best in the world and, if he continues on this path, I believe he can become one of Africa’s all-time great sprinters.”
Ajayi has enjoyed a breakthrough year, establishing himself among the world’s leading sprinters and recently breaking Nigeria‘s long-standing men’s 100m record.
Fasuba, whose national record stood for 20 years after he ran 9.85 seconds in 2006, said he was pleased to see another Nigerian raise the standard.
“I was privileged to hold the African record for 15 years and the Nigerian record for 20 years,” he said.
“Those are achievements I will always cherish, but records are meant to be broken. I am genuinely delighted that another Nigerian has raised the standard.”
The former sprinter urged Ajayi not to be satisfied with his latest achievement and challenged him to pursue the African record.
“My message to Kanyinsola is simple. Do not stop here. Keep pushing,” Fasuba said.
“Breaking the Nigerian record is only one milestone. Now go after the African record and continue lowering your personal best. That is how legacies are built.”
Fasuba also believes Ajayi and quarter-miler Samuel Ogazi can inspire a new generation of male Nigerian sprinters after years in which the country’s women dominated sprint success.
“The feats of Kanyinsola and Samuel Ogazi have the potential to inspire a new generation of Nigerian male sprinters and quarter-milers,” he said.
Ajayi arrives in Glasgow in impressive form after another standout performance on the Diamond League circuit, where he again finished ahead of Jamaica’s Oblique Seville at the London meeting after also beating him earlier this season at the Prefontaine Classic.
The sprinter has already joined Team Nigeria’s training camp in Scotland ahead of the athletics programme, which begins on 27 July.
Meanwhile, the first group of Nigerian athletes and officials left the team’s pre-Games training base in Aberdeen for Glasgow on Wednesday, with a second group scheduled to move into the Athletes’ Village on Friday.
The phased relocation follows several weeks of preparation and acclimatisation in Aberdeen as Nigeria finalises its build-up to the Commonwealth Games.

Breakdown: How much each Nigerian athletes will earn competing at 2026 Commonwealth Games
GLASGOW, Scotland (Made In Africa Sport) – Team Nigeria athletes will receive higher allowances, improved welfare benefits and increased medal bonuses at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after the National Sports Commission (NSC) announced a new incentive package ahead of the competition.
According to a statement signed by the NSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr Kehinde Ajayi, the package was approved by Commission chairman Shehu Dikko and director general Bukola Olopade as part of efforts to improve athlete welfare and reward outstanding performances.
Here is a breakdown of what athletes and officials will receive.
Travel support
- ₦250,000 for each athlete and official to cover travel to the national training camp in Abuja.
- ₦250,000 for each athlete and official to support return travel after the Commonwealth Games.
Total travel support per athlete: ₦500,000
Local training camp allowance
- Athletes: ₦5,000 per day
- Officials: ₦7,500 per day
The NSC said this represents a significant increase from the previous daily allowance of between ₦1,000 and ₦2,000.
Overseas training camp allowance
For the 21-day high-performance camp in Aberdeen:
- Athletes: $150 per day
- Coaches: $200 per day
An athlete attending the full 21-day camp would receive:
- $3,150 (21 × $150)
Competition allowance
During the Commonwealth Games:
- Athletes: $200 per day
- Coaches: $250 per day
The Commission said this is an increase from the Birmingham 2022 rates of $150 for athletes and $200 for coaches.
Medal rewards
Athletes winning medals will receive immediate cash rewards of:
Gold: $3,000
Silver: $2,000- Bronze: $1,000
Their coaches will receive matching rewards.
Additional performance bonuses
Medal-winning athletes will also receive separate bonuses paid directly into their bank accounts:
- Gold: $5,000
- Silver: $3,000
Bronze: $2,000
Total earnings for medal winners
An athlete winning an individual medal will receive:

New competition kit
The NSC also confirmed that athletes have been issued upgraded Puma competition apparel, including approximately 20 items as well as premium luggage and two travel boxes for each athlete.
Favour Ashe boosts medal chances
The welfare package comes as Team Nigeria heads into the Games with growing confidence, particularly in athletics after Favour Ashe‘s victory at the BFTAA Open in Lee Valley.
Nigeria will target a first Commonwealth Games men’s 4x100m gold medal with a relay squad featuring Ashe, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Udodi Onwuzurike, Alaba Akintola, Israel Okon, Fakorede Adekalu and Chidera Ezeakor.
