EADB bankrolls 2026 FEASSA Games with hefty $90,000 package

East African Development Bank (EADB) has brought smiles to over 8000 participants at the ongoing 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro city, Tanzania with an announcement of $90,000 sponsorship.

Arguably the largest school sports event on the African continent, the FEASSA Games have now clocked 23 years.

EADB Country Manager, Mr. Stephen Wambura addressed the congregation at the Jamhuri stadium in Morogoro on Sunday, 16th August 2026.

He hinted that the FEASSA tournament is an apt platform for the Bank to invest in the development of East Africa’s young sporting talent as part of the bank’s mission to contribute to sustainable developmentprograms that create a lasting positive impact for the region.

“While our core mandate is financing development projects across key sectors of the economy, we recognize that sustainable development goes beyond infrastructure and enterprises. It also means investing in people, especially young people, who represent the future of our region. It is for this reason that EADB partnered with FEASSA as the title sponsor of the 23rd edition of the games and committed USD 90,000 towards the successful delivery of the tournament” remarked Mr. Wambura.

“Sports sponsorship is one of the key pillars of our Corporate Social Initiatives(CSI) agenda because we understand the transformative power of sports in shaping character, promoting healthy lifestyles and unlocking opportunities for young people in our region. Through this sponsorship, we are investing not only in the competition, but in the development of the next generation of East African leaders” he added.

The opening ceremony at the historical Jamhuri stadium was graced by Professor Adolf Mkenda, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology who represented the Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania.

EADB’s sponsorship will support the production of medals and trophies for winning teams, as well as the provision of playing kits for participants competing in the finals.

Uganda has once again demonstrated its stature as a regional school sports powerhouse by fielding the largest contingent at the 23rd FEASSA Games, with 130 teams and 1,660 participants competing across the Secondary Schools, Primary Schools and Special Needs Education (SNE) categories.

In boys’ football, Uganda’s challenge is spearheaded by traditional giants St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende, Amus College School, Kyadondo Secondary School and defending champions Bukedea Comprehensive School, all of whom are expected to be strong contenders for regional honors

The girls’ football competition features another formidable Ugandan presence, led by Rines Secondary School, Amus College School, BoniConsili Girls Vocational and Secondary School and Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA), schools that have consistently performed strongly in national and regional competitions.

Uganda is also expected to mount a serious challenge in volleyball, a discipline in which the country has traditionally excelled. In the boys’ category, Bukedea Comprehensive School, Namugongo Vocational and Secondary School and St. Jerome Secondary School Ndama will lead the charge, while Seroma Christian High School and Katikamu SDA Secondary School are among the schools carrying Uganda’s hopes in the girls’ competition.

Basketball remains one of Uganda’s strongest disciplines, with schools such as St Michael High School, St Cyprian High School and Amus College Schoolcompeting in the boys’ 5×5 category. In the girls’ event, traditional powerhouses St Mary’s Kitende, Nabisunsa Girls School and St Noa Girls Secondary School Zzanawill be seeking to extend Uganda’s dominance on the regional stage.

The tournament, scheduled to conclude on August 22, is expected to deliver a fiercely contested battle for honours across all disciplines, with Team Uganda seeking not only individual medals and titles but also a strong overall performance.

St Mary’s Kitende edge hosts Morogoro S.S to boys’ football gold in ill-tempered finale | 2026 FEASSA Games

Morogoro Secondary School (Tanzania) 1-2 St Mary’s Kitende (Uganda)

St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende smiled to the gold medal in the boys’ football competition at the 2026 FEASSA Games hosted in Morogoro, Tanzania.

The record FEASSA football champions held their nerves to beat hosts Morogoro SS 2-1 at the Jamhuri stadium before a capacity crowd that included the St Mary’s Kitende director Dr Lawrence Mulindwa.

Isaac Tibenkana gave Kitende the lead in the 38th minute. Leonard Kigoye scored past his own goalkeeper Denis Mugerwa for Morogoro S.S equalizer.

Jordan Tugume beat goalkeeper Felix Ezekiel as Kitende’s lead was restored.

Morogoro S.S completed the game with two players less after violent conduct.

Vincent Rashidi and Emil Maulidi were sent off by Rwandese referee Remy Victor in the 54th and 80th minutes respectively.

“It was a fight well fought, a journey well moved. I salute every party involved; from the players, coaches, administrators, other support staff and the fans,” Zzungu, the head coach remarked.

St Mary’s Kitende also won gold in Netball and Basketball (girls) to add to the bulk of gold medals for team Uganda in Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Scrabble, Chess and others.

The FEASSA 2026 Games theme was “Nurturing Sports Talent”.

Hosts Tanzania were joined by teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Burundi in the different sporting disciplines.

The 2027 edition will be hosted by Kigali, Rwanda.

Beach Soccer: Uganda, Tanzania excel in 2026 FEASSA Games

Uganda and Tanzania dominated Beach Soccer at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro city, Tanzania.

Uganda won four medals out of the possible six in this sport.

A gold medal for the girls’ team was spiced by two silver medals in both gender and a bronze for the boys.

Tanzania earned gold for the boys and a bronze medal for girls.

Uganda’s gold medal was attained by Standard High School Zzana, following a 6-3 victory over Sacred Heart Secondary School in the final.

The gold medal to team Uganda is a big boost, as the reigning FEASSA champions have confirmed top spots in Netball, Table Tennis (boys and girls), Badminton (boys and girls), Scrabble (girls), Tennis (boys) and Softball (girls).

Kenya has captured gold in athletics and cross country, Rugby (7’s and 15’s), Hockey (boys and girls), Scrabble (boys) as well as Lacrosse (boys and girls).

Thursday (20th August 2026) had Swimming, Cricket and Basketball action with a FEASSA Sports Symposium held at Cate Hotel, Morogoro.

The theme of this symposium is.“ Sports Talent Development pathways in East Africa: From school sport to regional and global excellence”.

The finals will be played on Saturday, 22nd August 2026.

Girls’ Football: Uganda advances three teams to the semifinals | 2026 FEASSA Games

Girls’ Football (Semi-finals) – Friday, 21st August

Amus College School (Uganda) Vs PSB Huye (Rwanda)
Rines Secondary School (Uganda) Vs Boni Consili Vocational & Secondary School (Uganda)

Uganda has qualified three schools to the semifinal level of girls’ football for the 2026 FEASSA Games ongoing in Morogoro, Tanzania.

Rines Secondary School, Boni Consili Vocational & Secondary School and Amus College School are the three schools joined by Rwanda’s PSB Huye in the semifinals.

Rines S.S topped Group A with 12 points, same as PSB Huye. The former have a one goal difference.

Both teams recorded four victories and one lose apiece.

In Group B, Amus College finished the pool with 8 points, unbeaten.

Boni Consili Vocational & Secondary School are in second position with 7 points.

Match-ups:

Amus College School tussles against PSB Huye in one semifinal whilst Rines Secondary School will play Boni Consili Vocational & Secondary School in the all-Ugandan affair.

The finals will be played on Saturday, 22nd August 2026 with the official closing ceremony held on the same day.

This is the 23rd edition of the FEASSA Games with over 8000 participants from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
