Eboboritse Uwejamomere Fails To Ignite Much Expected Revival For Golden Eaglets

Published

on

The eagerly anticipated revival of Nigeria’s cadet national team, Golden Eaglets under the tinkering of highly acclaimed England-trained tactician, Eboboritse Uwejamomere has failed to materialise, as the gaffer from Delta State could not take them into the semi-finals of this year’s West African Football Union (WAFU)-B U17 Championship.

Sports247 reports that a 1-1 draw with Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday was not enough to lift Uwejamomere’s side out of the quagmire they fell into after losing their first match of the competition 2-1 to Niger Republic, who then drew 1-1 with Côte d’Ivoire in their second game.

With Niger Republic already through to the semi-finals on four points, Nigeria needed to defeat Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, in order to pick the group’s second slot, but dark clouds appeared over the Eaglets’ prospects when their rivals scored first during the decisive game in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The Eaglets did manage to equalise in the 80th minute, but it wasn’t enough to keep their WAFU-B U17 campaign alive, as the 1-1 draw meant Uwejamomere’s squad placed third with a single point, while the Ivorians moved ahead on two.

Consequently, Uwejamomere’s side has been eliminated from this championship and will not move on to the African U17 Cup of Nations, while Niger Republic and Cote d’Ivoire progress to the semi-finals, still with hope of reaching the African finals.

On the other hand, Nigeria will now miss three straight editions of the U17 AFCON and four consecutive FIFA U17 World Cup tournaments, thereby keeping the Eaglets stuck on past glory at this level, while the avowed credentials that Uwejamomere flaunted as a youth football expert have been thrown to the trash bin.

It also puts a dent on an otherwise promising flight for the gaffer, whose full name is Eboboritse Omasanjuwa Uwejamomere, as he has in the past been data analyst for the Super Eagles and Super Falcons as well as head of academy at Sporting Lagos FC.

He has also worked as an academy coach at Millwall, Gillingham and Nottingham Forest in England as well as head coach/technical adviser at FC Nilayo and Stormers SC, backed by a UEFA A Licence, which he got in May 2024, plus an MSc in Advanced Performance Football Coaching from University of South Wales (2022–2024).

Unfortunately, an early sign of a setback for him came when he was barred from sitting on his team’s bench at the WAFU-B Championship because he does not have a CAF A-License, which meant he could not communicate directly with his players during the thick of action at Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou.

Unbeaten Zudachi Face Hungry Daily Manna as Wellborn, Jendol Battle for Redemption in Island AllStars PatrickLingo Super League

The race for supremacy in the Island AllStars PatrickLingo Super League 2026 enters a fascinating third week on Saturday, October 17, with league leaders Zudachi Construction looking to protect their unbeaten record while Wellborn Hotels and Jendol Superstores chase crucial points at the Lagos Business School Sports Arena.

With five teams battling for the championship, Matchweek 3 promises another intriguing chapter in a competition already producing goals, surprises and shifting fortunes.

The opening encounter, scheduled for 8:30 a.m., pits Wellborn Hotels against Jendol Superstores in a contest both teams will be desperate to win.

Wellborn began their campaign impressively, defeating Daily Manna 1–0 through Ezenwaka’s 43rd-minute strike. However, their momentum suffered a setback in Matchweek 2 when Remed Healthcare secured a narrow 1–0 victory.

With three points from two matches, Wellborn occupy second position and will be determined to return to winning ways.

Jendol Superstores, meanwhile, enter the fixture searching for their first victory after sitting out the opening week.

Their debut against Daily Manna ended 1–1, with Chibuike scoring in the 13th minute before a spectacular free-kick from Sky P restored parity.

With just one point, Jendol know victory over Wellborn could significantly improve their championship prospects.

Attention then shifts to the 10:30 a.m. showdown between Zudachi Construction and Daily Manna Global.

Zudachi have emerged as the early pace-setters following their entertaining 4–2 opening victory over Remed Healthcare.

Izuchukwu Agada’s brace helped underline their attacking credentials, while their Matchweek 2 rest day means they return refreshed and eager to strengthen their grip on first place.

Daily Manna, however, have endured a frustrating beginning.

After losing 1–0 to Wellborn, they recovered to secure a 1–1 draw against Jendol, courtesy of Sky P’s impressive free-kick.

Still searching for their first victory, Daily Manna face arguably their toughest assignment yet against the league’s most prolific attacking side.

Remed Healthcare, meanwhile, will observe their scheduled rest day after producing one of Matchweek 2’s standout performances.

Having suffered a 4–2 opening defeat to Zudachi, Remed responded with a disciplined 1–0 victory over Wellborn, courtesy of Ila MBH’s 56th-minute winner.

That result lifted them to three points and firmly back into championship contention.

With Zudachi leading on three points and superior goal difference, Wellborn and Remed also have three points, while Jendol and Daily Manna trail on one point each.

Organised by Island AllStars Sports Club Lagos, with PatrickLingo Pharmaceuticals Limited as tournament sponsor, the league continues to combine competitive football with fitness, friendship and sportsmanship.

The fixtures, communicated by Onyegbule Durugbo of the Sports Management Committee (SMC), set the stage for another potentially decisive Saturday.

Will Zudachi tighten their grip on the summit? Can Wellborn bounce back? Will Jendol finally celebrate victory, or can Daily Manna spring the season’s biggest surprise?

At the Lagos Business School Sports Arena, the answers will be decided on the pitch.

Five teams. One crown. The battle is heating up!

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has expressed appreciation following his appointment as a member of the Directorate of Security and Intelligence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

The appointment, announced on Monday in Abuja, adds another responsibility to Adeboye’s public service portfolio and reflects his involvement in national assignments beyond his primary mandate of grassroots sports development.

Reacting to the development, Adeboye described the appointment as an honour and a call to greater responsibility, pledging to approach the assignment with diligence, loyalty and integrity.

“I remain committed to serving with diligence, loyalty and integrity. I pray that Almighty God grants me the wisdom, strength and guidance to discharge this responsibility successfully,” he said.

The Presidential aide expressed appreciation to the leadership of the APC and the Presidential Campaign Council for the confidence reposed in him, noting that every responsibility entrusted to an individual demands commitment, discipline and accountability.

“I am deeply honoured by this opportunity and look forward to making meaningful contributions to the success of the assignment,” Adeboye added.

His appointment comes alongside his continuing responsibilities as Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, where he has been involved in initiatives aimed at strengthening grassroots participation, youth empowerment and talent development across Nigeria.

Adeboye has consistently advocated for a more structured approach to sports development, particularly the establishment of sustainable pathways through which talented young Nigerians can progress from schools and communities to national and international competitions.

He is also involved in preparations for the National Grassroots Sports Development Summit 2026, scheduled for November 18 and 19 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Summit, themed “Creating a New Pathway for Sustainable Grassroots Sports Development,” is expected to bring together stakeholders to examine the challenges confronting grassroots sports and identify practical solutions for long-term development.

Adeboye maintained that his latest appointment would be approached with the same sense of responsibility that has guided his public service engagements.

He expressed confidence that cooperation, professionalism and dedication would remain essential to discharging the duties associated with the new assignment.

The Presidential aide also prayed for wisdom and divine guidance as he undertakes the additional responsibility.

“Every opportunity to serve comes with expectations. I accept this responsibility with humility and a determination to contribute my experience and best efforts towards the assignment entrusted to me,” he stated.

The appointment marks another chapter in Adeboye’s public service career as he continues his work in grassroots sports development while taking on additional responsibilities within the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

LA 2028 Olympic Qualifiers: Toni Payne, Uchenna Kanu Hit Braces as Super Falcons Thrash Comoros 5-0, Advance 7-0 on Aggregate

Published

on

Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a commanding performance to defeat Comoros 5-0 in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying encounter on Tuesday, completing an emphatic 7-0 aggregate victory to advance to the next round.

Sports247 reports that Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu were the standout performers, scoring twice each, while Christy Ucheibe added another goal as Nigeria demonstrated their attacking quality against the visitors.

The victory followed the Super Falcons’ 2-0 first-leg triumph at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, giving Nigeria a comfortable advantage heading into the decisive encounter.

Despite entering the match with a two-goal cushion, the Super Falcons approached the second leg determined to extend their advantage rather than simply defend their first-leg result.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 41st minute when Toni Payne broke the deadlock, putting Nigeria ahead and increasing their aggregate lead to 3-0.

The opening goal ensured that the Nigerian side entered the interval in a commanding position, leaving Comoros with an increasingly difficult task.

The Super Falcons returned for the second half with renewed attacking determination, producing four additional goals to complete an impressive victory.

Uchenna Kanu doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 57th minute before Payne completed her brace six minutes later, making it 3-0 on the day. Kanu then grabbed her second goal in the 67th minute, extending Nigeria’s advantage to four goals.

Christy Ucheibe completed the scoring in the 71st minute, putting the finishing touch on a dominant performance that underlined Nigeria’s superiority across both legs.

The five-goal victory also ensured that the Super Falcons finished the two-legged contest without conceding, recording consecutive clean sheets against Comoros. The result represented a successful outing for interim head coach Austin Eguavoen, who had emphasised the importance of winning rather than relying on Nigeria’s first-leg advantage.

Speaking before the encounter, Eguavoen stressed that maintaining the team’s structure remained his priority, although he welcomed the possibility of scoring more goals. His players responded with an impressive attacking display, scoring five times while maintaining their defensive discipline.

Kanu also delivered on her pre-match ambition after expressing confidence in the squad’s ability to secure another convincing victory.

With Comoros eliminated 7-0 on aggregate, Nigeria will now turn their attention to Morocco in the next round of the qualification campaign.

The upcoming encounter represents another important challenge as the Super Falcons continue their pursuit of a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

For Nigeria, the comprehensive victory provides a significant confidence boost ahead of the tougher assignments expected in subsequent rounds.

Five goals, two braces, two clean sheets and a 7-0 aggregate triumph — the Super Falcons have delivered a strong statement of intent as their Olympic qualification journey continues.
