CAF decide on 2027 AFCON, 2026 WAFCON
The executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will today in Dar es Salam, Tanzania, take some major decisions as regards next year’s AFCON as well as women’s version of the tournament, which is due to be played next month.
A congested international calendar as well as doubts over the readiness of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to stage a befitting 2027 AFCON may force the competition to be further postponed until 2028.
CAF will also make an official announcement on the host of this year’s WAFCON.
Rumours are rife that Morocco will pull out as host of the competition with South Africa open to step in to stage the tournament that will also serve as qualifying series for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The semifinalists of the 2026 WAFCON will advance to the World Cup.
The Super Falcons are the defending champions of WAFCON.
