EXCLUSIVE: Super Eagles assistant coaches to be replaced by ‘those who will add value’
Plans are now underway for the local assistants of the Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle to be replaced by what a top official told SCORENigeria will be coaches “who will add more value” to the national team.
Since Eric Chelle took charge of the Super Eagles in January 2025, he has been assisted by two local coaches – Daniel Ogunmodede (Remo Stars) and Fidelis Ilechukwu (Enugu Rangers).
The yardsticks used to appoint them have long been questioned and now it has been gathered that they may give way for more experienced and qualified coaches to support Eric Chelle going forward.
Eric Chelle has worked more closely with his hand-picked three assistants from France, making his local assistants largely redundant.
A top official asked a rhetorical question: “In the event that Eric Chelle quits before the end of his contract, can the local assistants lead the Super Eagles?”
SCORENigeria has already reported that the NFF technical committee will meet tomorrow in Abuja to deliberate on coaching changes in the various national teams.
It is expected that the committee will put forward more experienced and qualified replacements for the Super Eagles local assistant coaches.

Will Iwobi’s 100 caps stand?
Record keepers have questioned the 100 caps for the Super Eagles credited to Alex Iwobi.
The Super Eagles presented the Fulham star with a plaque to mark his milestone appearance before Wednesday night’s friendly against Portugal.
However, the records showed that FIFA chalked off a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Algeria after the game was forfeited by Nigeria for fielding an ineligible player – Shehu Abdullahi.
Also, FIFA also chalked off a friendly against Togo in 2017 because of the record number of substitutes played in the game.
That would then mean that Iwobi is on 98 caps, two games away from the Century milestone…
