Super Falcons step up training for WAFCON warm-up matches
Super Falcons have stepped up their preparation for two warm-up friendlies against Cameroon ahead of next month’s WAFCON in Morocco.
On Wednesday, the reigning African champions trained at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadu Ahidjo annex, but will today make use of the main stadium (venue of the Super Falcons’ 1-0 defeat of the Indomitable Lionesses in the Final of the 10th Women AFCON tournament in 2016).
Expected to hit the Falcons camp before training on Thursday is Israel-based defender Sikiratu Isah.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Michelle Alozie, and forward Chinwendu Ihezuo are expected at the team’s camp after training Thursday.
Mexico-based wing back Chidinma Okeke and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde are being expected in Yaounde Friday.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and 16 other players are already ensconced in the Super Falcons’ Hilton Hotel abode in Yaounde ahead of two matches against Cameroon Saturday and Tuesday next week.
Both matches have been scheduled for the Military Stadium in Yaounde on Saturday, 28th February and Tuesday, 3rd March respectively.
The two teams are using the games to attain excellent form and shape ahead of participation in the 14th Women Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco, 17th March – 3rd April 2026.
Cup-holders and 10-time champions Nigeria will contest in Group C of the final tournament alongside Zambia, Egypt and debutants Malawi, with their first match coming up against Malawi on 18th March in Casablanca.
The 2016 runners-up Cameroon are up against Ghana, Mali and debutants Cape Verde in Group D, with their first match against Mali on 18th March in Fes.
Canada-based returnee playmaker Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene is also in camp, alongside goalkeepers Comfort Erhabor and Fatima Oloko, defenders Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Shukurat Oladipo and Kafayat Shittu, midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Esther Onyenezide, Precious Christopher and Jennifer Echegini, and forwards Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Favour Nkwocha, Folashade Ijamilusi and Rinsola Babajide.

Ademola Lookman winning and smiling to the bank
Ademola Lookman is winning both on and off the pitch at Atletico Madrid.
On the pitch, he has scored six goals and made four assists since his transfer in January.
On Saturday, he will hope to win his first major piece of silverware when Atleti battle Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final, while his new club are also in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League with him firing the tie breaker against Barcelona.
Off the pitch, the Super Eagles star forward is the joint second highest earner at the La Liga club as he earns 240,385 euros a week gross, same as the Argentine Julian Alvarez.
This is about five times what he was on at Atalanta – 47,170 euros.
The highest earner is the veteran goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who takes home 400,577 euros every week.

Chrisantus Uche flies Nigeria’s flag in UEFA Conference League semis
There will be Nigerian interest in the semifinals of the UEFA Conference League after Crystal Palace made it to the last four.
Super Eagles star Chrisantus Uche features for Palace.
Palace will be guests of Shakhtar Donetsk in the semifinal first leg on April 30, while the return leg will be in London a week later.
Ademola Lookman carries Nigerian interest in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League after he helped Atletico Madrid go past Barcelona to the last four of the competition, while Ola Aina will be representing Nigeria playing for Nottingham Forest in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League.

Nwaiwu ranked in Super Lig Top 5
The ratings of Trabzonspor defender Chibuike Nwaiwu have continued to soar after he was ranked among the best five U23 players in the Turkish Super Lig.
This is according to CIES, one of Europe’s leading football research institutions.
Nwaiwu, the 22-year-old central defender who joined Trabzonspor just three months ago , secured second place with 78.8 points in the rankings.
Nwaiwu’s strongest attribute was highlighted as his “Playmaking from the Back.”
He was one of three Trabzonspor players who made the Top 5.
