Even before the season kicked off, Trabzonspor coach revealed that he had crowned Paul Onuachu the top scorer of Turkey.

Onuachu is the leading scorer in the Turkish Super Lig with 18 goals and two assists and he has also netted twice as Trabzonspor cruised into the quarterfinal of the Turkish Cup.

In his first spell with Trabzonspor on loan from Southampton, he fired 15 goals.

“When Onuachu first arrived, I called him the top scorer,” Trabzonspor coach Fatih Tekke remarked.

“He has special talents, but what I want from him is to be even better.

“If he doesn’t lose some balls easily, he will score more goals.

“We are very happy to have him.”

He added: “What I like most about Onuachu is how he works hard in training.

“We need to thank both him and the team. These kids really work hard. They try to do whatever we tell them immediately.”

He will now be replaced by either the experienced Francis Uzoho or Adebayo Adeleye.

Coach Eric Chelle will be forced to make changes to his starting XI against Jordan as he will now be without three players who started against Iran – Okoye, Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi.

Onyemaechi was given compassionate leave to be with his partner as she gave birth to their first child, while Ajayi was also excused to attend to a personal matter.
