Eagles’ New Training Kit Hit With More Flak, As Taiwo Oloyede Faults Choice Of Colours
More critical comments are trailing the newly unveiled training kit of Nigeria’s men’s senior national team, Super Eagles, as ex-international midfielder, Taiwo Oloyede slammed the choice of colours.
Sports247 reports that the new kit came under instant flak from Nigerians when the Eagles stepped out in their training gear on Wednesday in Antalya, Turkey, ahead of Friday’s friendly with Iran.
Unlike the high level of excitement and anticipation that trailed graphic presentations when the new garb was unveiled virtually on Monday, the package in real life left much to be desired.
The most pronounced grouse Nigerians now have with the kit, as contained in a cross-section of comments collated via social media, was the decision by the country’s American suppliers, Nike, to produce items in shades of lemon and black with red trimmings.
The basic argument among Nigerian fans all through Wednesday, as the issue trended on social media, was why Nike totally jettisoned the country’s famous combinations of dark green and white, but opted instead to present ‘strange colours’ for the team.
The same question was also asked by Oloyede, as the former Stationary Stores and Julius Berger FC of Lagos star, who is fondly called ‘Skippo,’ made his opinion known in a sarcastic yet down-to-earth style.
Oloyede used a number of group platforms he belongs to on WhatsApp to express his distate for the Eagles’ new kit and, in order to drive his message home pointedly, he stated his verdict in pidgin English.
“Why dem go give us lemon colour and Red? Na our colour be dat? Na wah for NFF oh,” Oloyode pondered rhetorically, with a hint that he would have preferred the team to continue with their last set of kit.
Sports247 recalls that this is not the first time Nike would come under widespread attack over their preferences for ‘weird colours’ in the packaging of Nigeria’s jerseys, training kit and leisure wears.
The American company also came under fire for giving Nigeria lemon coloured jerseys for the Eagles’ outing at Korea/Japan 2002, but they have seemingly opted to defiantly go back the same route that was condemned 24 years ago.

Iran Miss Another Key Player For Friday’s International Friendly Versus Super Eagles
Iran have been dealt another huge blow ahead of Friday’s international friendly against Nigeria, as Team Melli will be without one of their key midfielders, Saeid Ezatolahi Afagh, who plays for Shabab Al Ahli in UAE Pro League.
Sports247 gathered that the defensive midfielder, who came up through Malavan’s youth academy and impressed from an early age, making his first team debut in 2012, has been ruled out of Friday’s game in Antalya, Turkey due to injury.

It means the Eagles will not have to contend with a talented battler, who emerged as Iran Pro League’s youngest ever player at the age of 16, following which he also went home with the Iranian federation’s young player of the year award.
He became the youngest goal scorer in the history of the Iran national team at the age of 19 years and 42 days, after scoring in a 3-1 victory against Turkmenistan on November 12th, 2015 and previously played for Atlético Madrid C of Spain.
He has also featured for Rostov, Anzhi Makhachkala and Amkar Perm of Russia as well as Reading of England, but will not be there when Team Melli face Nigeria on Friday and then confront Costa Rica four days later at the same venue.
His absence revives memories of how he missed Iran’s first match of the 2018 World Cup against Morocco because of a red card in qualification, but he later played against Spain and Portugal.
A year later, he was ruled out of Iran’s squad for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup because of injury, which has seemingly recurred once again, as the Shabab Al Ahli midfield ace will not be there against Nigeria, after hurting a foot against Al Ain.
The upcoming matches against Nigeria and Costa Rica are part of Iran’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, for which they have been drawn in Group G along with Belgium, New Zealand and Egypt.
