In a statement released via its official social media platforms, the league body reiterated that clubs designated as venue hosts must take full responsibility for ensuring that match facilities meet the required standards.

According to the NLO, now that match venues have been officially confirmed following the release of groupings, host clubs are mandated to guarantee the availability and proper condition of essential facilities.

These include the playing pitch, changing rooms, and other technical infrastructure necessary for matchday operations.

The league also stressed the importance of adequate security and safety arrangements. Clubs are required to provide sufficient security personnel and measures to protect match officials, visiting teams, and spectators throughout the duration of fixtures.

Furthermore, the NLO warned that failure to comply with its competition rules and regulations regarding venue readiness will attract disciplinary sanctions in line with the league’s Code of Conduct.

Clubs facing difficulties in securing or preparing their venues have been advised to promptly notify the NLO Secretariat to seek guidance or intervention.

The directive forms part of the league’s efforts to ensure a smooth and hitch-free start to the 2026 season, while maintaining professional standards across all match centres.

Sports247 reports that the Pride of Rivers dominated the encounter from start to finish, with five different attacking moments highlighting a ruthless performance that saw Kun Khalifat completely overwhelmed.

The breakthrough arrived in the 27th minute when Salman Abubakar unleashed a superb strike from outside the box to put Rivers United ahead.

The hosts carried their advantage into the second half and quickly doubled their lead.

In the 49th minute, Chijioke Mbaoma made it 2-0, finishing a move created by Alex Oyowah as Rivers United continued to turn the screw.

Salman Abubakar then completed his brace in the 58th minute, capping a beautifully constructed team move with a low finish to make it 3-0.

The floodgates were now fully open. Just four minutes later, Wasiu Falolu joined the party, making it 4-0 after brilliant work from Mbaoma, who provided the assist.

Rivers United were not finished. In the 84th minute, Ekene Awazie extended the advantage to 5-0, putting the final touch on an emphatic victory and completing a memorable evening for the Pride of Rivers.

The result caps Matchday 5 with a five-goal statement from Rivers United, who combined attacking quality, intensity and clinical finishing to dismantle Kun Khalifat.

For Kun Khalifat, the heavy defeat will provide plenty of questions for the technical crew, particularly after conceding five goals in a match where Rivers United controlled the momentum for long spells.

For Rivers United, however, it was a night to savour. Five goals, a clean sheet and a dominant performance — the Pride of Rivers have certainly announced themselves with a bang.

“It’s Something to Get Worried About” — Mangut Mbwas Admits Nasarawa United’s Slow Start

Nasarawa United head coach Mangut Mbwas has admitted that the club’s poor start to the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League season is a concern after the Solid Miners suffered another defeat on Matchday 5.

Sports247 reports that Nasarawa United were beaten 2-1 by Kwara United at the Late Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl George Innih Stadium in Ilorin, leaving the Lafia-based side with just four points from their opening five matches.

Reflecting on the campaign so far, Mbwas acknowledged the disappointing return while insisting that the team must now focus on stabilising its performances.

“If you look at the log, it’s really something to get worried about. Five games, amounting to fifteen points, and we have four points from those.”

Despite the defeat, the coach identified some positives from the contest and praised the competitive nature of the encounter.

“However, we have some positives and some negatives to drive from the game. Both sides yearned for the result. We had a great game in the first half, conceded an early goal, but we recovered almost immediately.”

Kwara United took the lead early in the contest before Nasarawa United responded to level the game, but the hosts eventually restored their advantage to secure maximum points.

For Mbwas, the immediate priority is to address the inconsistencies and help the team regain stability.

“We will move on from this phase and stabilize the team, going forward.”

The coach also acknowledged the cost of dropping points despite the efforts put into each match.

“Losing points in every effort put isn’t the best. But we will work towards it.”

The result leaves Nasarawa United with one win, one draw and three defeats from five matches, a difficult opening by the club’s recent standards.

The Solid Miners currently occupy 16th position with four points, while Kwara United climbed to eighth with seven points following their victory.

With the season still in its early stages, Mbwas and his technical crew will now have the opportunity to use the international and domestic schedule to address the team’s weaknesses and improve their results.

Nasarawa United will return to action on Sunday, September 27, when they host North-Central rivals Niger Tornadoes at the Lafia City Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.

For the Solid Miners, the message is straightforward: another difficult result could increase the pressure, making a positive response against Tornadoes particularly important.
