There was a special moment of silence before every Round of 32 at the ongoing Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys’ football in Lira city on Friday, 15th May 2026.

This was in honour of the deceased female basketball player from St Noa Girls School – Zana Maxine Modesta Anyango, who died on Thursday.

Anyango featured in the recently concluded USSSA Ball Games 1 held at Seroma Christian High School, where she suffered a knee injury that necessitated surgery that did not go as planned.

In the opening Round of 32 games played on Friday morning, there was a moment of silence before kick-off to honour the life of the deceased.

During the games proper, defending champions Buddo outsmarted Kisozi Seed 3-0 at the Lira Town College playground.

A goal in each half from John Bosco Ssembuzi (own goal), a stunning long-range strike from Aaron Okello and a tap-in from Hilary Tumwine inspired Ssemakula Magulu’s coached Buddo S.S to the victory desired.

It would have been a cricket score for the reigning champions had their lead forward Ambrose Aboy, Francis Balaba and substitute Umar Katamba carried their scoring boots to the field.

Kisozi Seed’s skipper Asuman Ssenono was impressive throughout the well-attended duel, also televised live on FUFA TV.

In the other Round of 32 games played, Mbale Progressive, Kawempe Muslim and London College Nansana also progressed to the Round of 16.

Mbale Progressive needed a 5-4 post-match penalty victory over Masindi SS after a barren draw at the Lango College playground 1.

Kawempe Muslim defeated Kicwamba High School 2-0 at Dr Obote College playground 1, whilst London College Nansana eliminated Agape S.S 2-1.

More Round of 32 matches will be played throughout Friday, alongside the classification duels to determine positions 33 to 64.

Saturday, 16th May 2026, is earmarked for the Round of 16 matches as the quarterfinals loom on Sunday.

A new trophy was officially unveiled on Thursday that will be awarded to the champions in waiting.
