Pool Association of Uganda ushers in new leaders, former MP Onyango elected chairman

The Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) has instituted a new set of leaders after a tranquil elective assembly held at the Pope Paul VI Hotel in Ndeeba, Kampala.

Former Member of Parliament for Bugwe North Hon. Gideon Onyango is the new chairman of the association for a four-year tenure (2026 to 2030).

Onyango will serve with his running mate Yusuf Meyan Magomu as vice chairman.

The duo fetched 39 votes to beat Robert “Pipol” Kayanja and Paul Okware who managed 36 votes.

“I thank all the delegates who graced the elections. My first agenda will be to restore good accountability of the public funds given to PAU. I also want to regionalize this sport” Hon. Onyango remarked.

The General Secretary seat has Rogers Ssemanda whose 44 votes put down Jackson Edau (31).

Former national player Muhammad Wasswa Kayiiya is the new technical director.

Kayiiya who has earlier been challenged for lacking the required academic qualifications garnered a massive 42 votes compared to Ismail Kalibbala (18) and the incumbent Donald Ampumuza (14).

George Katongole Kiwanuka, a vastly experienced journalist working with the Nation Media Group retained his seat as the director public relations.

Katongole collected 43 votes shredding off competition from Emmy Alfred “Sero”Jondu (31).

Clubs representative:

Fauzah Namuganza is the clubs’ representative having scored 41 votes to Michael Kanaakulya’s 33.

Women affairs:

Debborah Ibenu also retained her seat as the women affairs on the executive with 42 votes, 10 better than Amina Faith Nganda.

This new executive is tasked with further promoting and growing the game of pool across the different corners of the country in compliance with the National Council of Sports (NCS) statures.

PAU organizes pool competitions at district, regional and national level with the signature Nile Special National Pool Championship the main open.
