Governance: 2026 UTTA Annual General Meeting ratifies Executive board, endorses Ug.Shs 2 billion budget

The Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) successfully held its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Hotel Africana, Kampala on Sunday, 31st May.

The AGM brought together member club delegates representing 75 member clubs drawn from 75 districts across Uganda, alongside officials from the National Council of Sports (NCS) and other key stakeholders in the sport.

Agenda:

The Assembly reviewed the Association’s activities and achievements over the past year through reports from the Finance, Technical, Secretariat and Media & Publicity departments.

Delegates also received updates from member clubs and deliberated on strategies aimed at strengthening governance, expanding participation and accelerating the growth and development of table tennis throughout Uganda.

A major highlight of the AGM was the unanimous ratification of the UTTA Executive Board by delegates representing the Association’s 75 member clubs.

The ratification reaffirmed the confidence of members in the leadership and its vision for the continued development of table tennis nationwide.

The Assembly also approved the admission of new members to the UTTA General Assembly, further broadening participation and representation within the Association’s governance structures.

The meeting was attended by Diana Kwesiga, Senior Legal Counsel of the National Council of Sports (NCS), who represented the Council and provided guidance on governance and institutional development matters.

In her remarks, Kwesiga emphasized the need for all National Sports Associations and Federations to align their governance structures with the provisions of the National Sports Act, 2023.

She highlighted the requirement for sports bodies to demonstrate a national character through broad-based representation and support from districts across the country.

Kwesiga noted that UTTA had successfully met this requirement, as delegates representing 75 member clubs from 75 districts unanimously ratified the Association’s Executive Board during the AGM.

She subsequently witnessed the ratification process and commended the Association for its efforts to strengthen compliance with the National Sports Act, 2023.

Work plan & Budget:

During the AGM, the UTTA Executive Board presented its 2026–2027 Annual Work Plan and Budget.

They boldly outlined the key priorities aimed at expanding participation, strengthening regional structures, developing athletes and technical officials, improving competition systems and increasing the sport’s footprint nationwide.

The proposed budget for the period stands at UGX 2 billion.

The Association also requested the Government of Uganda to increase funding support for table tennis to enable UTTA to effectively fulfill its mandate of promoting and developing the sport across all regions of the country.

Delegates commended UTTA for its continued engagement with member clubs through outreach visits conducted in districts across the country.

They particularly appreciated the Association’s efforts in supporting club development through the donation of table tennis equipment and technical support aimed at strengthening grassroots structures.

The delegates pledged to continue working closely with UTTA to identify, nurture and develop talent within their respective clubs and districts, recognizing grassroots development as the foundation for the long-term growth and success of table tennis in Uganda.

Addressing the delegates at the AGM, UTTA President Cyrus Mark Muwanga reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to grassroots development as the cornerstone of its strategy for the coming year.

Our focus in the coming year is to take table tennis closer to the people. UTTA will be implementing regional outreach programs across the country to train coaches and umpires, strengthen local structures, and provide equipment to all our member clubs. We believe that sustainable growth of the sport begins at the grassroots, and we are committed to ensuring that every region has the capacity and resources needed to nurture talent and increase participation.

He added that increased government support would be instrumental in enabling the Association to expand access to the sport, identify and nurture talent, strengthen club structures and create opportunities for young people throughout Uganda.

UTTA expressed appreciation to the National Council of Sports, member club delegates, athletes, officials, partners and the media fraternity for the continued support and commitment to the growth of table tennis in Uganda.

The Association further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence, inclusivity, transparency, and sustainable growth of table tennis across the country.

The 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games 1 at Seroma Christian High School in Mukono entered day three on Saturday, 2nd May.

Table Tennis is one of the games on the menu where the different schools are represented with the group stage level still on-going.

T.T powerhouse Kibuli S.S won with ease, 3-0 over Elite High School, Entebbe in one of the girls’ games on Saturday, 2nd May 2026.

Another giant Mbogo High School overcame Trinity College Nabbingo 3-0. Mbogo College also won 3-0 over Sacred Heart.

Mbogo Mixed completed the Mbogo’s dominance with a 3-0 victory over Janan S.S.

Other results:

Elite High School also fell 0-3 to Iganga S.S, St. Mary’s College Namagunga won 3-1 against Trinity College Nabbingo, Kawanda S.S smiled past the hosts Seroma Christian High School 3-0.

Nabisunsa Girls School lost 0-3 to Seeta High Green Campus.

The group stages will continue on Saturday and Sunday before the knock out round come Monday, 4th May 2026.

Boys:

In some of the boys’ gamed; it has been mixed fortunes for Kings College Budo after falling to Namilyango College 1-3 before recovering to win 3-0 over Ntare School.

For group B, Bishops SS has lost in two games; succumbing 0-3 and 1-3 to Mbarara High School and Mengo S.S respectively.

Nkoma S.S from Mbale city started brilliantly; triumphing in their opening two games 3-0 over Seeta High (Green) and Busoga College.

In Group D, host school Seroma Christian High School triumphed 3-0 over Janan S.S.

Jinja S.S overcame St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) 3-1. The group games for the boys will also run through Saturday and Sunday before the knock out round.

Table Tennis aside, Badminton is the other indoor game at the 2026 USSSA Ball Games 1.

The other sports disciplines include girls’ football, Hockey, Tennis, Basketball (5X5), Volleyball (U-17) and Netball (U-17).

The games were officially opened by Bishop Hannington Mutebi on Friday, 1st May 2026. They will climax on 8th May 2026.

The outstanding schools will qualify to represent Uganda at the 2026 East African Games in Morogoro city, Tanzania.

Six Uganda Table Tennis players make the grade for 2026 ITTF East Africa Regional Table Tennis Championships

Event: 2026 ITTF East African Regional Table Tennis Championships
Dates: 20th to 23rd May
Venue: Port Sudan, Sudan

After the successful trials of players for the 2026 ITTF East Africa Regional Championships, six players (3 per gender) were selected for team Uganda.

The trials were held at the National Training Center at Kololo Senior Secondary School on four different occasions (11th, 12th, 18th and 19th April 2026).

Basing on the final standings, the best players were confirmed for national duty ahead of the ITTF East African regional championship and the African senior championship coming up in Morocco (11th to 18th October 2026).

Joseph Sebatindira, Joshua Magaya and Enock Balyewunya are the male players on the national team.

The successful females are Jemimah Nakawala, Parvin Judith Nangonzi and Patience Anyango.

Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) warmly congragulates the athletes who earned their places on the national team. This is a commendable achievement, and we urge them to represent Uganda with pride, discipline, commitment and sportsmanship.

In total, there were twenty seven players (15 male and 12 females) who took part in the trials.

Lasting impressions left, raw talents unveiled at 2026 Kateregga Memorial Schools and Institutions Table Tennis Championship

The 2026 Kateregga Memorial Schools and Institutions Table Tennis Championship successfully climaxed at the Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala on Sunday, 1st March.

Over 300 players from primary, secondary and universities were actively engaged in the three day’s tranquil event organized by the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA), making a return to the domestic calendar after a decade.

The climax was graced by the chairperson of the National Council of Sports (NCS) Ambrose Tashobya who lauded the different actors involved in this sport; administrators, players, coaches, umpires and parents.

“I like being part of events that involve very young people; like Table Tennis” Tashobya remarked.

“Table Tennis is a sport critical for young athletes; for agility and general body reflex. National Council of Sports is fully aware of the great work by UTTA. We recognize the achievements domestically, continentally and on the international level. I applaud the coaches, players. We need each other to grow sports in Uganda. It is a joint effort. We shall continue to support Table Tennis” he hinted.

Cyrus Mark Muwanga, president of UTTA lauded the sponsors that made the event a success as Legacy Productions, School Pay, Ice Springs Water, NCS, Uganda Olympic Committee and others.

Muwanga made an appeal for sponsorship to the team set to play at the World Championships in London.

“Table Tennis is one of the biggest sport in Uganda. Last year, Uganda played at the Africa Nations finals. Please consider us for a little more funding” he presented.

In the events proper; there was grueling action in the singles and team events across the different clusters; primary, secondary and universities.

Primary Schools:

Nakasero Primary School won the team girls’ gold. Mbogo Junior School settled for silver as bronze was taken by Mbale & Mbale City Kindergarten & Primary School

For the primary schools (boys); Mbogo Junior School took the gold with Nakasero Primary School having silver as Mbale City Kindergarten and Primary school earned bronze.

Secondary Schools:

Kibuli S.S won gold for secondary schools (boys and girls). Mbogo High School had the silver as Mbogo College & Seroma Christian School shared third place for bronze.

Seroma Christian High School took silver for the boys whilst Mbogo College School & Nkoma S.S.S each earned bronze.

Universities:

Uganda Christian University (UCU) won the ladies’ gold. Kampala International University (KIU) for silver and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) & ISBAT University for bronze.

For the boys, Kampala International University (KIU) smiled with gold; ISBAT University earned silver while Makerere University & Uganda Christian University (UCU) each earned bronze.

“This is one championship that will really help us plan for our teams ahead of the season as we roll out for what is in stock for 2026. Also, it helps the players acquire new skills and get that competitive spirit” Robert Ssekitoleko, a coach at Mbogo College revealed.

Excelling individual players received trophies, same as teams and medals were also given out.
