African Representatives at Fifa World Cup 2026 – Focus on GHANA – Profile, History

Ghana missed out on the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco early this year but qualified for the second successive World Cup.
The Black Stars will aim to replicate the performance shown in South Africa 2010 when they became the third African country to reach the quarter final.
Head coach- Carlos Queiroz
Carlos Queiroz got the appointment in April following the sacking of Otto Addo who was in his second stint of Ghana.
The 73-year-old Portuguese coach, a former at Manchester United and Real Madrid is a distinguished tactician having been at the helm of Portugal at South Africa 2010 and IR Iran at Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022. He also qualified South Africa for Korea/Japan 2002 but departed the post prior to the finals.
How they qualified
Despite failure to qualify for Afcon 2025, Ghana were at their best in the World Cup qualifiers beating second placed Madagascar to a spot in I.
Under Addo, Black Stars punched their ticket to the global showpiece on the final day of qualifying campaign after Mohammed Kudus struck for the winner against Comoros. Sadly, Kudus won’t be in US, Canada and Mexico due to injury.
Jordan Ayew was a key cog in the qualifiers scoring seven goals.
