South Africa rallies to earn a point off Czechia | 2026 FIFA World Cup

South Africa recovered from a goal down to draw 1-all with Czechia during Group A of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Atlanta stadium on Thursday.

Michal Sadilek gave Czechia the lead on 6 minutes.

South Africa replied with 7 minutes to end the game through Teboho Mokoena’s well-drilled penalty.

Sadilek, who features for Czech First League club Slavia Prague, finished past goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams inside the first six minutes of the game.

South Africa returned a completely better and improved side in the final 45 minutes.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Mokoena was very composed to score the equaliser, sending the goalkeeper, Matej Kovar, the wrong way.

This was the first point earned by Czechia and South Africa in the championship, having lost their opening duels 1-2 and 0-2 to South Korea and Mexico, respectively.

Julian Andres Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored for Mexico past South Africa in the official opening match of the tournament, played before a fully packed Mexico City stadium.

Mexico and South Africa lock horns later at the Estadio Guadalajara in Zapopan with maximum points securing any of the sides to the round of 32 stage.

Last group A duels:

The two final Group A matches will be played on 25th June 2026.

South Africa will play South Korea at Estadio Monterrey.

On the same day and time, Czechia will take on Mexico at the Mexico City stadium in Mexico City.

Argentina are the reigning champions of this tournament, which has been played since 1930.

The 2026 edition is the first to be co-hosted by three countries (Mexico, Canada and the United States of America) with an expanded version of 48 countries.

Switzerland 4-1 Bosnia & Herzegovina: Super subs Manzambi, Vargas on target in Los Angeles | 2026 FIFA World Cup

  • Switzerland 4-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Qatar 1-1 Switzerland
  • Canada 1-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Switzerland whipped Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-0 in Group B at the on-going 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Los Angeles stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Johan Manzambi (2), Ruben Vargas and Granit Xhaka (penalty) scored the all-important goals inside the final quarter hour of the game.

Manzambi, the SC Freiburg attacking midfielder was well stationed to volley home past goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.

Vargas finished from close range after being set up by Breel Donald Embolo in the 84th minute.

Once again, Manzambi got his second goal in the game on the stroke of full time, with Vargas turning provider this time round.

Bosnia and Herzegovina completed the game with a man less after the sending off for defender Tarik Muharemovic in the 80th minute.

Muharemovic (Sassuolo football club defender) denied Embolo a goal scoring opportunity.

Bosnia and Herzegovina pulled a goal back through a stunning Ermin Mahmic wonder strike from 35 yards in the third minute of added time.

Mahmic, an attacking midfielder for Czech first league club Slovan Liberec struck off a first-time volley that flew past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel into the back of the net for the consolation.

Xhaka of Sunderland football club sealed Switzerland’s victory with a well drilled penalty.

The victory takes Switzerland top of group B with 4 points after their 1-all with Qatar.

In the same group, Canada faces Qatar at the BC Place Vancouver stadium in Vancouver city.

Argentina is the reigning champion.

DR Congo holds Portugal to earn first point at 2026 FIFA World Cup

FIFA World Cup 2026 (Group K):

  • Portugal 1-1 DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) earned their first ever point at the FIFA World Cup.

Upon return to the global footballing fiesta, DR Congo gallantly played to a 1-all draw with Portugal at the Houston Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Two headed goals from Joao Pedro Goncalves Neves and Yoane Wissa ruled the day.

Joao Neves heads home the opener

Neves headed home the opener in the 6th minute as Portugal took the lead.

The Paris Saint-Germain Football Club midfielder headed past goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi for the opening goal off a perfectly weighted cross from the left from Pedro Neto.

Wissa headed home the equaliser in the last of the four additional minutes as the opening stanza ended one goal apiece.

DR Congo marked a return to the FIFA World Cup since 1974 when they made their debut.

Group K also includes Uzbekistan and Colombia at the Mexico City stadium, facing off in the coming hours.

Mbappe strikes a brace in France’s winning start against Senegal | 2026 FIFA World Cup

  • France 3-1 Senegal

France defeated Senegal 3-1 in Group I of the on-going 2026 FIFA World Cup at the New York New Jersey stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Kylian Mbappe struck a brace and Bradley Barcola scored two second half goals for the French, 2022 losing finalists to Argentina in Qatar.

After largely a promising first half for Senegal, where Nicholas Jackson hit the lower post and Ismailia Sarr blasted over from close range, it was the European side that took the lead in the subsequent stanza.

Mbappe scored in the 66th minute for the opener before substitute Barcola got the second goal with 8 minutes to play.

Senegal pulled back a goal through Ibrahim Mbaye’s decent goal in the 5th minute of added time.

Sixty seconds later, Mbappe scored his second on the evening, France’s third with a wonder shot from 35 yards away from goal to seal the victory.

This was Mbappe’s 57th goal in 99 international games for France.

Norway face Iraq in Group I’s other duel at the Boston stadium in Foxborough as the French take early charge of the pool.

Later on, the reigning champions Argentina kick off their title defence against North Africans Algeria at the Kansas city stadium in Kansas city during Group J.

The other Group J contest has Austria against Jordan at the San Francisco Bay Area stadium, Santa Clara.
