Prisons dominate as Police fight back on Matchday 22 of Handball Super League

Matchday 22 of the 2026 Uganda Handball Super League served up two contrasting contests at the Kampala Old Kampala Hall on Saturday, August 8.

While Prisons HC turned their encounter against Kawanda SS HC into a one-sided affair, Police HC had to dig deep to overcome Evergreen HC in a closely fought battle that went down to the wire.

The two matches produced 148 goals, underlining an action-packed day of attacking handball.

Prisons HC announced their intentions early against Kawanda SS HC, taking a commanding 22–12 lead at half-time before running away with the game in the second half to win 45–24.

The opening 30 minutes laid the foundation for what became a dominant performance. Prisons scored 22 goals while limiting Kawanda to just 12, creating a 10-goal cushion that gave them significant control going into the second half.

Rather than allowing Kawanda back into the contest, Prisons increased the pressure after the break. Their attacking output remained strong and they added another 23 goals, while Kawanda managed 12, leaving Prisons with a comprehensive 21-goal victory.

The scoring was spread across the Prisons lineup, but Toko Ivanwas particularly influential, finishing with 13 goals. Ariet Deogracious was also a major contributor with 11, while Twinamasiko Collins scored seven and Okot Walter added six.

Kawanda were led by Muhamad Issa, who scored nine goals, but the team struggled to match Prisons’ sustained attacking production. Matovu Shadrack Henricky added five goals, while Okello Ricky scored four.

For Kawanda, the challenge was not a lack of individual scoring, but keeping pace with a Prisons side that consistently found the back of the net.

If Prisons’ victory was about control, Police HC’s meeting with Evergreen HC was about resilience.

Police eventually walked away with a 41–38 victory, but the result was far from straightforward.

Evergreen entered the half-time break with the advantage, leading 20–19 after an entertaining opening 30 minutes. With only one goal separating the sides, the match was perfectly poised for a decisive second-half battle.

Police responded after the break, scoring 22 second-half goals compared to Evergreen’s 18. That four-goal swing was enough to overturn the half-time deficit and give Police a three-goal victory at the final whistle.

Police had two players finish with eight goals apiece, with Kisalita Isma and Ssekamanya Geoffrey leading the charge. Bongomin Daniel added seven, while Lukenge Emmanuel and Kangala Imuran contributed four each.

Evergreen, meanwhile, had their own standout performer in Oryema Patrick, who finished with 10 goals. Opio Victor added eight, while Mugenyi Japheth Asiimwe scored seven.

The difference ultimately came in the second half. Evergreen had done enough in the opening period to lead by one, but Police increased their scoring rate when it mattered most.

Unlike the earlier Prisons-Kawanda contest, there was never a sizeable gap to separate Police and Evergreen. The three-goal final margin reflects just how competitive the game remained.

Match Day 22 provided plenty of attacking action and, more importantly, two very different demonstrations of winning handball: one built on early dominance and the other on a second-half fightback.

Handball: Promising start for Mbogo Mixed, Gombe S.S, Kibuli S.S, Wampeewo Ntake at 2026 USSSA Ball Games II

The 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games 2 are currently raging on in Gulu city, Northern Uganda.

Handball for either gender is one of the games on the rich menu at these games.

Boys’ results:

In some of the opening matches played at the championship; Gombe S.S boys’ team has won two-out-of-two condemning Kira College Butiki and St Kagwa 24-13 and 27-06 respectively.

It was also a perfect start for Mbogo Mixed with their 34-09 victory over St Mark’s College Namagoma.

Lubiri S.S won 22-05 over Ocer Campion, St Jerome smiled past Maruzi 17-06, Wampeewo Ntake defeated Jinja College 26-08, Mbogo Mixed College edged Mbarara High School 29-11.

Elsewhere, Bombo Army Secondary School humiliated Nabumali High 27-01 and Makobore High School won 18-10 over Nakanyonyi Secondary School

Girls Results:

For the girls; It has been back-to-back victories for Kibuli S.S; triumphing over Masheruka Girls and Mustard Seed S.S 29-08 and 33-03 respectively.

Kawanda S.S has also won their first two games; 33-09 over Kyeizooba Girls S.S and 31-02 thumping past Ocer Campion.

Meanwhile, Gombe High School beat Light Secondary School 24-10; Mbogo High School won 22-11 over Iganga Secondary School.

The contest between Immaculate Heart and Lubiri S.S ended in a goal-less stalemate.

The group stage matches will be played until the new week before the interesting knock out round.

The best four schools per gender will represent Uganda at the 2026 FEASSA Games in Morogoro city, Tanzania.

Handball is among the many sports disciplines that constitute the rich menu at the USSSA Ball Games 2.

The others are Netball, Athletics (Track and Field), Lacrosse, Woodball, football (U-14 and U-17), Basketball (3X3), Rugby (7’s), Chess, Ludo, Volleyball, Futsal, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball and Dancesport.

There are several demonstration games on display like Darts, Pickle ball, Kho Kho.

Uganda Men’s Handball Super League: Makerere, Uzalendo shine as goals flow on Matchday 15

The 2026 Uganda Handball Men’s Super League continued to gather momentum over the weekend at the Old Kampala Arena, where fans were treated to two entertaining encounters that produced an impressive 161 goals.

Uzalendo HC maintained their strong form with a dominant victory over Wananchi HC, while Makerere University HC overcame a spirited Evergreen HC side in a high-scoring contest that highlighted the attacking quality currently on display across the league.

Uzalendo HC delivered one of the most commanding performances of the season, brushing aside Wananchi HC 52-28 in a one-sided affair.

From the opening whistle, Uzalendo imposed themselves on the game, building a 25-12 advantage by halftime before maintaining the same intensity after the break to outscore Wananchi 27-16 in the second half.

The military side’s attack was relentless throughout the contest. Aaron Odongo led the scoring charge with 13 goals from 15 attempts, demonstrating remarkable efficiency and composure in front of goal. Oscar Mwesigwa added 11 goals, while Derrick Anguzu contributed eight and Erica Ahmed Ntege chipped in with nine goals.

Uzalendo’s ability to convert fast breaks proved decisive. They scored 24 fast-break goals and finished with an outstanding shooting efficiency of over 73 per cent, underlining their superiority in attack. Their aggressive defensive play also disrupted Wananchi’s rhythm, forcing turnovers and limiting the opposition’s opportunities.

Wananchi struggled to contain the pace and movement of their opponents but still found moments of resistance through Twaha Kiyingi Jr., who scored nine goals, and Enock Yaaka, who added eight. Henry Muwonge also contributed six goals as Wananchi attempted to stay within touching distance.

However, the gap in quality and execution became increasingly evident as the match progressed. Uzalendo’s quick transitions, clinical finishing and defensive discipline ensured there would be no route back for Wananchi.

The emphatic 24-goal victory further strengthens Uzalendo’scredentials as one of the league’s strongest contenders as the season heads into its decisive stages.

The second match of the day provided a much more competitive spectacle as Makerere University HC overcame Evergreen HC 44-37 in an entertaining attacking battle.

Makerere entered the halftime break with an 18-14 advantage before producing an even stronger second-half display, scoring 26 goals after the interval to seal victory.

The university side showcased excellent offensive variety, with several players making significant contributions. Patrick Nasasira was among the standout performers with nine goals, while Timothy Ajero and Justice Nabaasa each scored eight. Isaac Ainebyoona added seven goals, and Arnold Mayanja contributed five as Makerere’s balanced attack proved difficult to stop.

Makerere also excelled in creating opportunities for teammates, registering 24 assists during the match. Their movement off the ball and willingness to share possession repeatedly opened gaps in the Evergreen defence.

Despite the defeat, Evergreen HC produced a spirited performance and remained competitive for long periods. Ogwang Kasmiri led their scoring efforts with nine goals, while Obed Athiwireyo added seven. Isaac Tumwine and Patrick Oryema also made important contributions as Evergreen consistently threatened to close the gap.

The difference ultimately came down to efficiency in key moments. Makerere converted crucial opportunities in the second half and punished defensive lapses to gradually extend their lead.

Matchday 15 showcased the growing quality and attacking ambition within the Uganda Handball Men’s Super League. Between the two matches, teams combined for 161 goals, providing spectators with an exciting display of fast-paced handball.

Uzalendo HC’s dominant victory over Wananchi HC sent a strong statement to their title rivals, while Makerere University HC demonstrated resilience and attacking depth in overcoming Evergreen HC.

As the competition moves into its final stretch, every point becomes increasingly valuable. With teams fighting for league positions and momentum, the performances witnessed at Old Kampala Arena suggest that supporters can expect even more drama and excitement in the weeks ahead.
