Atale backs Odegbami for NFF Presidency ahead of Soname and Pinnick

A new voice has entered the conversation ahead of the next Federation presidency, with John Atale backing former captain Segun Odegbami for the top job. The endorsement adds to what is shaping up to be a closely watched contest for the leadership of Nigerian football.

Odegbami brings a unique profile to the race. Beyond his achievements as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated footballers, he has remained an outspoken figure on the direction of Nigerian football and has consistently called for stronger structures, better development and a more effective administration of the game. His supporters will see that experience and understanding of football as major advantages.

However, the race is expected to feature other heavyweight names, including chairman Kunle Soname and former president Amaju Pinnick. Both men have significant experience within Nigerian football and bring different perspectives and networks to the contest, making the battle for the presidency one that could attract considerable attention from clubs, stakeholders and supporters.

Nigerian football is coming out of a difficult period, with concerns over administration, domestic football development and the performance of the national teams. Whoever emerges will inherit the responsibility of rebuilding confidence and creating a system capable of delivering long-term progress.

For Odegbami, Soname, Pinnick and the other potential contenders, the biggest challenge will be convincing Nigerian football stakeholders that they have a clear plan for the future.
