Published

on

She Maroons ascended to the summit of the FUFA Women Super League table after overcoming KCCA Women on Wednesday morning at Lugogo.

The Prison Sentries earned a hard-fought 1-0 win courtesy of defender Bridget Nabisaalu to claim three points.

The defender rose highest to head home from a corner kick two minutes after the break, and it proved the decisive moment.

The result took She Maroons to the top of the table on 11 points from six matches, while KCCA Women dropped to third place on 9 points.

Matchday Six will continue on Friday, with Lady Doves hosting Rines in Masindi. On Saturday, Amus College takes on St. Noa Girls, She Corporate visits URA Ladies, while Uganda Martyrs will entertain Jinja United.

The game between Makerere University and Kawempe Muslim was postponed due to the latter’s engagement in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

CAF Women’s Champions League: Mamelodi Sundowns target scalp against Lekie

Published

  • CAF Women’s Champions League | Wednesday, 4th November | Group A
  • Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Lekie – 3 PM, EAT

Mamelodi Sundowns will be seeking to secure victory as they face Cameroon’s outfit Lekie in their second Group A game on Wednesday.

The Banyana Ba Style were held to a goalless draw in the opening game against hosts FC Masar and thus find themselves in a must-win situation ahead of today’s encounter.

Coach Godfrey Sapula is aware of what is at stake and believes his charges will need to step up their efforts.

“We are ready for this game, and the target is to earn three points, but that can only come if we improve from the performance we had in the first game, and that is what we have been working on,” he said.

Mamelodi Sundowns will need to heavily bank on the experienced players like goalkeeper Andile Dlamini, Lebohang Ramalepe and Bambanani Mbane among others.

Lekie, on the other side, will equally be targeting all three points, having played out a goalless draw in their first game against FUS Rabat.

In the other Group A game to be played today at 6 PM EAT, FC Masar from Egypt will take on Morocco’s FUS Rabat in an all-North African affair.

Unbeaten Kitara face ultimate Litmus Test against resurgent Police in Kamwokya

Published

on

Kitara’s flawless, unbeaten start to the season will be pushed to the absolute limit this Tuesday afternoon when they travel to the capital to face a rapidly improving Police FC side at the Kira Police Arena in Kamwokya.

The Royals arrive in Kampala carrying the proud tag of being one of only three remaining unbeaten teams in the division. Despite having played the fewest games in the league so far—just five matches—Kitara have quietly amassed 11 points. A victory on Tuesday would pull them to same points with Police FC.

The Cops Turn the Corner

Police enter the fixture riding a wave of newfound momentum. It marks a dramatic turnaround for the Cops, who recently endured a nightmare defensive patch where they conceded nine goals in back-to-back thumpings by Entebbe UPPC (3-0) and SC Villa (6-1).

Since that wake-up call, Police have found their groove. They head into Tuesday’s clash on the back of consecutive victories over Kigezi Home Boyz (3-1) and Kataka FC (2-1) and a highly impressive, gritty draw away to reigning champions Vipers SC at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

History, however, slightly favors the visitors. In the last four Premier League meetings between the two sides, Kitara hold the upper hand with two victories, one draw, and one defeat.

Heavy Casualties on Both Sides

Both managers will be forced to shuffle their tactical decks due to high-profile absences in their respective camps.

The hosts will be completely starved of leadership in the middle of the park. Police captain Said Kyeyune is officially ruled out of the clash, serving a suspension after being shown a red card during their hard-fought win over Kataka.

Kitara FC have also been dealt a severe double blow to their backline. Head coach Wasswa Bbosa confirmed that the pair of Benjamin Nyakoojo and Jimmy Kalema are out after picking up injuries during their gritty 1-0 weekend win against UPDF FC.

“We are focused and our aim is to win tomorrow’s game so that we can close the gap on the leading pack,” Bbosa remarked ahead of the match. “Two of our key players are out after picking up injuries against UPDF, but we believe we have a deep, quality squad that is ready to step up to the challenge.”

NEC target top spot as they host Struggling UPDF at Lugogo

Published

on

NEC have their eyes firmly set on the summit of the league table as they prepare to host UPDF FC in a highly anticipated clash at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo this Tuesday afternoon.

The Bugolobi-based giants enter Matchday ten brimming with confidence, determined to extend their flawless unbeaten streak against the army side. Across their six previous competitive meetings, NEC have historically dominated the fixture, registering three wins and three stalemates against their military rivals.

The Race for the Summit

NEC currently sit third on the league log with 20 points, agonizingly close to the peak. They trail table-leaders SC Villa by just a single point.

With SC Villa facing a highly unpredictable, tricky away fixture against BUL FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru at the exact same time, a victory for NEC at Lugogo could catapult them to the top of the 18-team table, provided the battle in Njeru ends in a draw.

Speaking ahead of the Tuesday afternoon showdown, NEC’s Badru Kaddu made the team’s lofty silverware ambitions crystal clear.

“It is a tricky game, but we are ready,” Kaddu stated confidently. “For us, the objective this season is to compete for the title, and the target for every match remains three points.”

Squad Dynamics & Team News

The hosts will have to navigate the tactical puzzle without the services of influential left back Hakim Wandera. Wandera is serving a mandatory suspension following a red card picked up during NEC’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Blacks Power. Aside from Wandera’s absence, the rest of the squad is fully fit and available for selection.

On the other side of the pitch, UPDF FC head coach Hussein Mbalangu is desperate to arrest a worrying slump in form. The army side lands in Lugogo riding a dismal three-match losing streak, their most recent setback being a bruising defeat at the hands of Kitara FC over the weekend.

Currently languishing in 12th place with just 8 points from 8 games, UPDF are in dire need of a turnaround to distance themselves from the danger zone. In a major boost for the visitors, club top scorer Derrick Taremwa returns to the squad. Taremwa missed Saturday’s fixture due to Masaza Cup commitments and is expected to lead the line as the soldiers aim for an upset.

Elsewhere this afternoon, a resurgent Police FC side will look to keep their momentum rolling as they play host to Kitara FC at the Kira Police Arena.
