Kabalaza Golf Open 2026: Golfers raise over 27M for caddy shed in Entebbe

The Kabalaza Golf franchise at Entebbe Club held a successful tournament at the club, founded in 1901.

Under the theme Golf for a Purpose, the three-day championship lured over 270 golfers from various clubs.

At least 27,000,000 was raised to upgrade the current caddy shed and lavatories.

“The purpose of golf this year, as Kabalaza, is to uplift the caddy shed and their lavatories that are currently in a sorry state. Caddies are part and parcel of this game and we cherish them,” Paul Nsereko, chairman of Kabalaza group, remarked.

In the tournament proper, former national champions Martha Babirye and Andrew Ssekibejja claimed the overall gross ladies and men prizes respectively.

 “It’s always great to win here on this course, and this is a build-up for me to the Entebbe Ladies Open,” Babirye, who scored 241 strokes over 54 holes, stated.

Ssekibejja scored 217 to take the men honours. “I intend to maintain this momentum, and it’s a good start for me in the year,” the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort golfer hinted.

Mary Louise Simpkins Memorial Golf Club Chairman Herbert Kamuntu was the overall men’s winner with a score of 43 points.

At the same time, Mbarara Sports Club’s Faith Namara, conquered the ladies’ overall crown with 44 points.

Phillip Kasozi was the best in the professional category.

Kabalaza group captain Michael Tumusiime lauded the golfers, sponsors and other stakeholders for joining hands together.

“I wish to appreciate the entire golfing fraternity for joining hands together with the aim of impacting social change and developing the sport of golf. The sponsors and all our partners take a special credit” Tumusiime noted.

Other top performers:

Collins Nuwagira was the best golfer in Group A with 40 points while Francis Mukonyezi was Group B with 40 points on count back.

Brian Kivumbi was Group C’s best with 41 points on count back.

Evelyn Atukunda, was Ladies Group A winner with 37 points while Edrae Kagombe, won Group B with 42 points.

Peter Mayende and Harshittha Loganathan won the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Steven Kitamirike and Sue Knight won the men’s and ladies’ seniors titles.

The top performers received various trophies, plaques, cash and other prizes.

The newly elected Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Shaka Gashaija was the chief guest.

The tournament, a world amateur golf ranking championship was sponsored by MTN Uganda, Aquafina Uganda, Street Club, Numax Cinema Entebbe, Petro Uganda, Pinnacle Security.

Lt. Namakula confirms Uganda Golf team for 2026 Victoria Cup

The Uganda national golf team head coach Lt. Flavia Namakula confirmed the squad due to take on Kenya in the 2026 Victoria Cup at Entebbe Club (3rd to 8th March).

Joseph Reagan Akena (Lugazi Hills and Country Club) leads the cast of the team.

Anthony Otukei, also from Lugazi; Joseph Kasozi (Uganda Golf Club), Godfrey Kambale (Entebbe Club), Andrew Ssekibejja (Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa), Elton Thembo (Entebbe Club), John Musimenta (Uganda Golf Club), Abdul Kakeeto (Tooro Club), Peter Mayende (Lugazi Hills and Country Club) and Amon Bwambale (Uganda Golf Club).

Akena and Ssekibejja are both former winners of the prestigious Uganda Amateurs Open championship, and bring the worthy experience to the team.

The team manager is Paul Habyarimana. This team seeks a successful title defence after winning the championship in 2025.

Kenya’s team has John Lejirma, Elvis Muigua, Isaac Makokha, Daniel Kiragu, Ebill Omollo, Junaid Manji Tsevi Soni Yuvraj, Rajput Mwathi Gicheru and a wildcard selection; Kevin Anyien.

The head coach is Ali Khimji, Brian Akun (team manager) and the head of delegation as Chris Kinuthia.

The Victoria Cup is one of East Africa’s premier amateur match play events, bringing together Kenya’s leading amateurs and their Ugandan counterparts in a highly competitive contest that showcases regional excellence and national pride.

Babirye, Kabasweka and Nyachama favourites as 2026 Entebbe Ladies Golf Open tees off

Thirty-five (35) lady golfers will take the par-71 Entebbe Golf Club course on Thursday morning when the 2026 MTN Entebbe Ladies Open tees off.

The three-day tournament, arguably the second biggest ladies open in the country, returns after not being played last year.

Top lady golfers from around the region will be competing over 54 holes including last year’s Uganda Ladies Golf Open winner Mercy Nyachama of Kenya who comes into the tournament as one of the favourites.

Nyachama will tee off at 10:10 a.m. alongside Wendy Angudeyo and Evelyn Atukunda.

Neema Olomi and Vicky Elias lead the cast from Tanzania and will be the other ladies to look out for at the torunament that carries World Amateur Golf Ranking status.

Olomi will tee off at 9:50 a.m. alongside Uganda’s Janet Kabayonga and Joyce Kisembo while Elias will take the course at 9:30 a.m. alongside Mehta Golf Club’s youngster Winnie Musuya and Rachael Atukunda.

Two-time winner and defending champion Peace Kabasweka will be eying a strong start to retain the championsip. Kabasweka tees off at 10:50 a.m. alongside Danelle Kawalya and Hadijah Naampijja.

Meanwhile, Martha Babirye will start her peersuit of the second title at 9:40 a.m. alongside Entebbe Club lady captain Mouren Okura and Kilimanjaro Golf Club’s Rachael Mushi.
