Kabalaza Golf Open 2026: Golfers raise over 27M for caddy shed in Entebbe

The Kabalaza Golf franchise at Entebbe Club held a successful tournament at the club, founded in 1901.
Under the theme Golf for a Purpose, the three-day championship lured over 270 golfers from various clubs.

At least 27,000,000 was raised to upgrade the current caddy shed and lavatories.
“The purpose of golf this year, as Kabalaza, is to uplift the caddy shed and their lavatories that are currently in a sorry state. Caddies are part and parcel of this game and we cherish them,” Paul Nsereko, chairman of Kabalaza group, remarked.


In the tournament proper, former national champions Martha Babirye and Andrew Ssekibejja claimed the overall gross ladies and men prizes respectively.
“It’s always great to win here on this course, and this is a build-up for me to the Entebbe Ladies Open,” Babirye, who scored 241 strokes over 54 holes, stated.


Ssekibejja scored 217 to take the men honours. “I intend to maintain this momentum, and it’s a good start for me in the year,” the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort golfer hinted.
Mary Louise Simpkins Memorial Golf Club Chairman Herbert Kamuntu was the overall men’s winner with a score of 43 points.


At the same time, Mbarara Sports Club’s Faith Namara, conquered the ladies’ overall crown with 44 points.
Phillip Kasozi was the best in the professional category.

Kabalaza group captain Michael Tumusiime lauded the golfers, sponsors and other stakeholders for joining hands together.
“I wish to appreciate the entire golfing fraternity for joining hands together with the aim of impacting social change and developing the sport of golf. The sponsors and all our partners take a special credit” Tumusiime noted.

Other top performers:
Collins Nuwagira was the best golfer in Group A with 40 points while Francis Mukonyezi was Group B with 40 points on count back.
Brian Kivumbi was Group C’s best with 41 points on count back.

Evelyn Atukunda, was Ladies Group A winner with 37 points while Edrae Kagombe, won Group B with 42 points.
Peter Mayende and Harshittha Loganathan won the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Steven Kitamirike and Sue Knight won the men’s and ladies’ seniors titles.
The top performers received various trophies, plaques, cash and other prizes.
The newly elected Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Shaka Gashaija was the chief guest.
The tournament, a world amateur golf ranking championship was sponsored by MTN Uganda, Aquafina Uganda, Street Club, Numax Cinema Entebbe, Petro Uganda, Pinnacle Security.

Meron Kyomugisha took lead of the 2026 Kilembe Mines Ladies open after the first 18 holes at the par-73 Kilembe Mines Golf course in Kasese Municipality on Thursday, 9th April 2026.
The long hitting Kyomugisha scored +7 (80) during round one. Peace Kabasweka is chasing Kyomugisha by a single stroke.

Joyce Kisembo and Winnie Musuya are joint third with +10 (83) as the duo of Catherine Kwagala and Janet Kabayonga are jointly stationed in the fifth place (86 gross).
Nerimah Shaminah and Lillian Koowe are tied 7th with 88 gross. Judith Komugisha (89), Gloria Mbaguta (92) and Gloria Nanyonga (92) complete the top 11 positions.
Friday is a moving for the silver category golfers who will make 36 holes.

The bronze category has three golfers Annette Bamanya, Sarah Ainembabazi and Racheal Kabugho.
The event is a world amateur golf ranking championship.
This tournament is organized by Kilembe Mines Golf Club, Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) and supported by a number of partners as Neptune, pepsi, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Exim Bank and MTN Uganda.

A total of 14 female golfers have been drawn for the opening round of the 2026 Kilembe Mines Ladies Open in the silver category.
Round one for these golfers will drive off on Thursday, 9th April at the par-73 Kilembe Mines Golf Club in Kasese.

The first match tees off at 9 a.m. with Lillian Koowe and Gloria Nanyonga swinging off.
Match two has Joweria Namanda, Janet Kabayonga and Meron Kyomugisha at 9:10 a.m.



At 9:20 a.m., it will be Resty Nalutaaya, Martha Babirye and Racheal Natukunda.
Peace Kabasweka, Robinah Angom and Nerimah Shaminah swing off at 9:30 a.m.
The last group will drive off at 9:40 a.m. with the left-handed Gloria Mbaguta, Joyce Kisembo and Frista Birabwa.


The official practice round was held on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, with the golfers having a feel of the course that overlooks the gigantic Rwenzori Mountain ranges.
“The course is good and the only need is to get used to the greens,” Angom remarked after the official practice round on Wednesday.
The tournament is organised by Kilembe Mines Golf Club and Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU).

Grace Kasango won the professional category at the 2026 Pearl of Africa (POA) Golf Series played the Entebbe leg.
Kasango scored 9-under-204 in 54 holes played over three rounds at the lake side 1901 founded Entebbe club.

The towering calm professional opened the first round with 4-under-67; then 2-under-69 on round two and climaxed with 3-under-68 on the final round, to win by three strokes over the aggressive Phillip Kasozi.
“It was a great victory and I salute the rest of the players I played with” he stated.

“I look forward more victories in future building from this win” Kasango who earned Ug.Shs 4.3 from this victory added.
Kasozi put up a spirited fight to finish second with 6-under-207. Vincent “Araali” Byamukama finished third with 4-under-209.
The duo of Tadeo Rodell Gaita and Ronald Rugumayo completed the 54 holes with 3-under-210 gross apiece.
David Kamulindwa, Davis Kato, Herman Deco Mutebi, James Koto and Silver Opio completed the top ten.

A total of 20 professionals made the cut for the Ug.Shs 27,000,000 prize money kitty of the professionals.
Joseph Cwinya-ai won the elite amateurs’ category to claim the biggest share of the Ug.Shs 5,000,000 prize money.

175 players were engaged in the subsidiary cluster played on the final day of the competition.
Bryan Wakwale and Florence Namuganza were the outstanding male and female winners respectively.
Exim Bank, Uganda Golf Union (UGU), Vivo Energy, Aquafina, Home Bliss, MTN Uganda and Case Medical Services, among others were among the sponsors.
The 2026 POA series will shift to the Kampala and Lugazi legs at the Uganda Golf Club and Lugazi Hills & Country Club courses respectively.
