AFN Working With Coaches, Clubs to Discover Young Talents – Okowa
President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Tonobok Okowa, has revealed that the federation is actively working with coaches and clubs across the country to identify and develop young athletic talents for the future.

Okowa explained that talent discovery remains a core priority of the federation, stressing that a structured system has been put in place to ensure promising athletes are identified early and properly monitored.
“We have a committee that focuses on scouting young talents,” Okowa said. “They work closely with coaches and clubs to identify athletes early and keep track of their development before they are brought into the national setup.”
According to the AFN boss, collaboration with grassroots coaches is crucial, as they are often the first to spot emerging talents at school and community levels.
“We rely on coaches to keep their eyes on these athletes and give us regular updates,” he added. “This way, we can plan properly and bring them in at the right time.”
Okowa noted that the approach is aimed at building a strong pipeline for Nigerian athletics, ensuring continuity and sustained success at international competitions.
