Calvin Abueva has again been fined ₱20,000 by the PBA Commissioner’s Office, this time for his hard foul on Zavier Lucero during Converge’s eventual loss to Magnolia in their Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup encounter last Sunday.

The “Beast” was initially called for a flagrant foul penalty one (F1) for the foul he committed early in the fourth quarter, but the league’s technical committee upgraded the call to an F2 following a thorough review of the ball game.

According to broadcast replays, the veteran forward rose to contest the young winger’s drive to the hoop, but his elbow caught the latter on the head.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial himself warned Abueva on Wednesday that a repeat of such actions would lead to harsher penalties.

This marks the second time in a month that he has been fined, having been slapped with a ₱20,000 penalty for statements detrimental to the league following the FiberXers’ loss to Barangay Ginebra last March 29.

It was after that game that he infamously made “paldo” remarks directed at the officiating, which was caught on video by members of the press.

Abueva was summoned at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium hours before Converge’s meeting with TNT Tropang 5G, set for a 7:30 PM tipoff.
