Sigh of relief in Lugogo as KCCA bounce back to winning ways

The fulltime whistle at MTN-Omondi Stadium on Wednesday night was received by wild cheers for the KCCA fans who quenched for victory in recent days. For the technical bench, it was a deep sigh of relief as the Kasisiro Boys secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over BUL.

Prior to this game, KCCA had lost the last two league outings and only accounted for one win in the last five. Such performance caused discomfort not only for the coaches but as well the team top brass which has come under scruitiny over the last couple of days.

Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Herbert Achayi scored in either half while the visitors got their consolation through a well struck free kick by teenager Denis Ssewagudde.

For KCCA to attain maximum points on Wednesday, it needed a restart, including the team camping in Lugogo for the last three days.

The coaching staff was beefed with former Uganda Cranes right back, Simeone Masaba joining from BUL as one of the assistants in Lugogo.

Additionally, coach Brian Ssenyondo made changes from the team that lost 3-1 to NEC, including captain Charles Lukwago who did not even make the bench with Mutwalibi Mugolofa starting in goal.

The other changes saw Gavin Kizito start at right back with Lazaro Kambale pushing further forward.

Ashraf Mugume and Saidi Mayanja bounced back to the midfield to partner the constant figure in Joel Sserunjogi.

KCCA got into the lead in the 31st minute when Ahimbisibwe reacted fastest to node home Mayanja’s looped cross.

On the other end, five minutes later, Achayi made a timely block to deny veteran striker Karim Ndugwa who was faced with only the goalkeeper.

At the stroke of halftime, Ssewagudde curled home direct from a well taken free kick.

However, three minutes after recess, Achayi who was captain of the day in the absence of Lukwago fired home when Mugume teed him up to help the hosts regain their lead.

KCCA held onto the scoreline, despite BUL ramping up efforts to at least salvage a point.

The result takes KCCA to fourth place on 33 points while BUL remain eighth on 20 points.
