Cricket Is Developing Quite Well In Plateau State, Says Head Coach Aliyu Haruna
Plateau State cricket head coach, Aliyu Haruna has expressed satisfaction with how the game is growing in his area of jurisdiction due to many youth development events the officials always organise.
Haruna added in an exclusive interview with Sports247 that cricket is also enjoying the same rate of accelerated growth all across Nigeria through various competitions.

He went further to pour encomiums on Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) and their sponsor, Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) auditing firm, for putting together a highly competitive youth competition in Abuja.
Haruna reasoned further that the success of such competitions at the state, zonal and national levels all across the country will soon make Nigeria become a top nation to be reckoned with in the world of cricket.
The vastly experienced cricket tactician from Jos expatiated, “We are here for a national zonal competition called PwC; which has been so far so good for us and other teams.
“It’s been a long run that confirms how cricket is developing fast all over the nation. I believe, in the coming years, our impact will be felt all over the world. I also believe cricket is going to take over from other sports full attention in Nigeria.
“Cricket is also developing quite well in Plateau State at the moment, because we are running many developmental programmes. We are teaching the game all over Plateau State and the entire North.”
However, Haruna concluded by admitting that cricket players, coaches and officials face many challenges in Nigeria, most prominent among which is funding, especially as the sport is quite expensive to prosecute.
“I have to be plain and admit that we have some challenges. Among the major challenges we have is lack of sponsors. We need more hands to join us in developing cricket and to take it higher in Nigeria.
“We also need more facilities and equipment in order to ease the difficulties of raising the game for us. Cricket is very expensive to practise. It’s one of the most expensive sports events in Nigeria and the world.
“To get the kit and equipment is very costly, because they are not produced here in Nigeria. We have to get them from Europe and Asia. That’s what makes the equipment quite expensive,” said the Plateau State cricket guru.
