USSSA Boys Football 2026: Bukedea North holds Kitende in one-all draw

Published

  • Bukedea North 1-1 St Mary’s Kitende

St Mary’s Kitende played to a one-all draw against Bukedea Comprehensive Secondary School North in a USSSA Boys’ Football Championship encounter in Lira.

The Wakiso District champions came in the game with pedigree and experience but Bukedea Comprehensive was motivated and ready to put up a fight.

It was not a good game for the eye since it was covered by tense emotions, forced errors and hoofing of the ball proving the pressure from both sets of players.

Uthman Kaaya broke the deadlock midway through the opening stanza as Bukedea Comprehensive took a deserved lead of the game.

However, Kitende returned in the second half more composed and that helped them build some attacks pushing Bukedea on the back foot.

With 15 minutes to play, Denis Kisiriko nodded home as Kitende levelled matters in the closely contested encounter.

In the dying minutes, Kitende’s right back Collins Ochata collided with Bukedea’s forward Marcus Mukisa in what looked like to be a nasty challenge.

Mukisa was rushed in hospital and by the time this report is being done we have not gotten any update on the state of the young talent.

Up next, Kitende will take on Lubiri Secondary School while Bukedea will lock horns with Seroma High School.

The ongoing championship is set to run for 10 days in Lira City and all the semifinalists will represent the country in the East Africa Games.

Nansamba heroics as Rines SS clinch historic title | Wakiso Zone Girls Football

Published

on

In a monumental performance that will be etched in the school’s sporting history, Rines SS were crowned the USSSA Wakiso Zone Girls’ Football champions after a tense and dramatic victory over perennial rivals St. Noa Girls.

The final, which lived up to its high-stakes billing, ended in a 1-1 stalemate after regulation time.

With neither side able to find a winner, the match was decided by a tense penalty shootout, where Rines SS emerged triumphant, winning 3-1.

The undisputed star of the day was Rines SS goalkeeper Bridget Nansamba, whose composure under pressure proved to be the difference-maker.

Facing a series of high-stakes spot-kicks, Nansamba put on a masterclass, saving three penalties to secure the trophy for her side.

Reflecting on the historic win, an emotional Nansamba shared the weight of the moment.

“I am so happy for saving my team in such a challenging situation. This is our first trophy at this level and the feeling is unexplainable,” Nansamba said.

“It’s the first time for us to beat St. Noa Girls. They have been a hard nut to crack, but we finally made it, and I thank everyone who has been part of the journey,” she added.

The victory marks a significant shift in the competitive landscape of the Wakiso Zone. St. Noa Girls have long served as the benchmark for success in the region, often proving difficult to overcome.

Breaking that barrier has provided a massive confidence boost for the Rines SS squad as they prepare for the upcoming national championships.

Looking ahead, Nansamba is focused on maintaining the momentum.

”Going into the nationals, I am confident we shall do all it takes to win something. As a team, we have prepared and we shall keep preparing so that we can keep the winning streak alive.”

Beyond individual brilliance, the victory was underscored by the strong relationship between the team and their supporters.

Nansamba was quick to acknowledge the vital role played by the fans, who remained loyal even during challenging patches throughout the season.

”We thank the crowd for being behind us,” she added. “Even when sometimes the results hardly go our way, the team keeps backing us.”

With this maiden zone title firmly in the trophy cabinet, Rines SS now turns their full attention to the national stage, carrying the belief that they have finally emerged as a force to be reckoned with in Ugandan girls’ football.

USSSA Games: Aidan College seek redemption in placement game against Buddo SS

Published

The stage is set for a high-stakes rematch as Aidan College prepares to face off against familiar foes, Buddo SS, in the 3rd place playoff.

For Aidan College, this isn’t just about a bronze medal, it’s about pride, persistence and breaking a persistent barrier.

Having met Buddo SS twice in the group stages across the 2025 and 2026 campaigns, Aidan College has yet to find a winning formula, falling short on both occasions.

However, Head Coach Umar Kabuye believes his side is no longer the underdog but a wounded lion ready to strike.

Aidan College has enjoyed a stellar campaign, but the shadow of Buddo SS looms large over their recent history. Despite the previous losses, Coach Kabuye insists those defeats served as the ultimate scouting report.

“We have met Buddo SS in the group stages twice in 2025 and 2026. Unfortunately, we have lost twice, but the most important thing is that we have picked up several lessons,” Kabuye noted. “I think we are a wounded side and also want to taste victory against Buddo.”

The narrative heading into this encounter is centred on psychological resilience. The Aidan technical bench has been working overtime to ensure the players enter the pitch with the belief that Buddo is beatable.

For Aidan College, finishing fourth is not an option. The motivation within the camp is at an all-time high, with the players eager to prove that the gap between them and the giants of Buddo SS has finally closed.

“The players and the technical team badly want to end the poor run against Buddo and I’m confident that we are ready for the challenge,” Kabuye added.

“We know it’s going to be a challenging encounter, but it’s one we are ready for. Victory is the target so that we conclude the campaign on a high note.”
