Kizito resigns as first assistant coach at Gomba Lions prior to 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup season

Before even the first ball has been kicked in this year’s Buganda Masaza Cup, the pressure and tension is being felt.
Alex Kizito, who has been working as first assistant at the record champions Gomba Lions has tendered in his resignation.
Kizito cites ill-professionalism as the key lead to the tough decision taken.
I wish to formally resign from position as first assistant coach of Gomba Lions, effective immediately. The decision has not been easy. However, due to unresolved matters regarding my contract and some differences in how professional issues have been handled. I believe it is best for both parties that I step down at this time. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the players, technical team and management. I learned a lot during my time here and I value the experience. I remain available to offer such a smooth handover and I wish the club continued success in the seasons ahead.
Alex Kizito, football coach

He leaves behind head coach Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza, Davis Nnono Ssozi (assistant), Lawrence Ndugga (team trainer) and Reagan Lule (goalkeeping coach).

Buweekula, Kyaddondo in non-scoring stalemate | 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup

Buganda Masaza Cup 2026 (Bulange Group):
- Buweekula 0-0 Kyaddondo
The official opening match of the 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup between Buweekula and Kyaddondo ended all square with both sides failing to find the back of the net at the Teachers Training College in Mubende on Saturday, 13th June.
The end-to-end duel played under sunny conditions was graced by the Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom Katikiro Oweek. Charles Peter Mayiga as chief guest, among a multitude of people.
Whilst the visitors (Kyadondo) slightly had an edge in the opening stanza, the host team rallied in the second half to pose the questions.

Kenneth Ssebaduka (Kyaddondo) and Denis Konde (Buweekula) were outstanding in the duel during the opening 45 minutes.
Kyaddondo had the first bite at the cherry when Ssebaduka shot off target as early as the second minute.
The hosts replied with two consecutive corner kicks well defended by Kyaddondo in the 8th minute.
Buweekula defender Fazil Bumba Magoba headed to defend well a free-kick delivery from Kyadondo’s Paul Kirada in the 11th minute.
On 17 minutes, Buweekula captain Patrick Kagulire executed a long delivery from his own half well tamed by Kyaddondo’s defenders.

The exciting Buweekula left footer Denis Konde shot off target towards the opposition goal in the 21st minute.
Moments later, Konde was fouled for a free-kick given. Fazil Bumba Magoba delivered the resultant free-kick well tamed by Kyaddondo goalkeeper Ashraf Bwabye before the first hydration break.
Upon restart from the break, Buweekula’s Livingstone Kaweesi had a shot blocked.

Referee Ibrahim Masembe showed a yellow card to Buweekula’s Shafiq Ssali for dangerous play towards Ssebadduka in the 36th minute.
Towards the end of the first half, Hamza Kalubwali shot over a rebound after Paul Kirada’s tempting long throw-in as Kyaddondo threatened.
Upon restart of play for the second half, Buweekula called for a change.
Martin Seguya was introduced for Feni Erieza. Kyaddondo’s Ivan Kabugo’s recovered from a knock to solider on.

On the hour mark, Buweekula made a change to bolster their team. Jamaldin Nsereko replaced Bosco Kanyike.
Kyaddondo captain Trevor Kalule was fully alert to head away the aerial threat.
Buweekula goalkeeper Kafeero landed awkwardly after an aerial challenge but swiftly recovered before the second hydration break.
Inside the final 20 minutes, Kyaddondo introduced dangerman Raphael Masudi.
Buweekula’s Livingstone Kaweesi tested goalkeeper Ashraf Bwabye with a free-kick that the latter tamed before yet another free-kick from skipper Patrick Kagulire flew off target.

Kyaddondo’s captain Trevor Kalule was named man of the match for the timely tackles, clearances and overall command of the game.
Buweekula who won the trophy last season is in Bulange group alongside Kyaddondo, Buddu, Busujju, Buluuli and islanders Buvuma.
I am happy to be in Mubende on behalf of the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. It was a great game of football from the two teams although we did not see any goals which is the beauty of the game. I commend the discipline from the fans. I see the level of competition in this championship has gone up. The scorer of the winning goal in the Stanbic Uganda Cup (Jimmy Kalema) for Kitara in the final was the top scorer of the Buganda Masaza Cup.
