Ankole Cup 2026: Exciting quarter finals looming, UVTAB lights up tourney with juicy prizes

Ankole Cup 2026 (Quarter-finals):

Sunday, 19th July  (1st Legs):

  • Buhweju Vs Kiruhura – Nsiika
  • Mbarara City Vs Bushenyi – Kakyeka Stadium
  • Ibanda Vs Rubirizi – St George’s PTC, Kagongo
  • Ntugamo Vs Rwampara – Africa Coffee Park

The Ankole Cup 2026 tournament has reached the thrilling business-end with the explosive quarter finals coming up this weekend.

During the first legs of the quarter finals; Buhweju faces Kiruhura in Nsiika.

Mbarara City will be up against Bushenyi at the Kakyeka stadium.

Ibanda will lock horns against Rubirizi at the St George’s PTC, Kagongo.

Ntungamo shall face Rwampara at the newly laid astro turf of the Africa Coffee Park.

These are all titanic clashes which will be played over two legs with the four successful sides progressing to the semi-finals which will take place on 2nd August 2026.

The tournament has received a massive boost with the announcement of UVTAB as a key sponsor, who will facilitate as the man of the match accolades and team track suits for the finalists.

UVTAB will also provide press jackets for the media personnel.

Your presence and encouragement can make all the difference.” Hon Amos Kankunda, spoke during the press conference held at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala.

For starters, the Ankole cup is an inter-district tournament bringing the 13 districts of Ankole.

Ankole Cup 2026: Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon. Tayebwa to grace opening ceremony in Bushenyi

Friendlies:

  • St Kagwa Vs Nganwa High School – 1 PM
  • MPs Vs Media – 3 PM

Main match:

  • Bushenyi District Vs Sheema District (4:30 PM)

Venue: Bushenyi Main stadium

The Deputy Speaker for the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa has been confirmed as the chief guest when the rebranded prestigious Ankole Cup 2026 kicks off at Bushenyi main stadium.

The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, 6th June 2026 with two curtain raiser matches before the Bushenyi versus Sheema main duel at 4:30 PM.

The old rivalry between St Kaggwa and Nganwa High School will be reignited during the first curtain raiser match at 1 PM.

This will be followed by a contest between Members of Parliament and the media at 3 PM.

The main match of the day will then take place at 4:30 PM as hosts Bushenyi takes on Sheema in a group A duel.

Team groups:

For starters, the Ankole Cup 2026 has lured 13 districts divided into four groups. Group A has Bushenyi district, Sheema district and Ntungamo district. Kazo district, Ibanda district and Kiruhura district are in group B. Group C has Isingiro district, Rwampara district, Mbarara City and Kashari. In Group D, there is Buhweju district, Rubirizi district and Mitooma district.

Follow of matches and schedule:

Forty three (43) will be played in total from the group stages, quarter-finals (two legs), semi-finals (two legs) and the grand finale.

The climax of the tournament will happen on Sunday, 16th August 2026 at the Kabwohe stadium.

Each district is expected to register 25 player. Of these 20 must be born within that exact district and five players who feature in superior leagues can be used.

Over the years, the Ankole Cup tournament has grown in stature, relevance and popularity for the ability to attract the cream-de-la-cream of Uganda’s players who feature for the national team and top super division clubs.

This tournament is also a viable platform to provide unwavering entertainment for the people, unify the varying persons who affiliate to different political groups or social classes and an avenue to help identify raw talented players.
