The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has approved a number of governance, membership and member support decisions following the conclusion of its annual meetings in Edinburgh. 

ICC Board establishes two new sub-committees 

The Board approved the establishment of two Board subcommittees. 

A Governance Review Committee has been constituted comprising Devajit Saikia (BCCI – Chair), Dr Mohammed Moosajee (Cricket South Africa) and Dr Ros Rivaz (ICC Independent Director). 

The Board also established a Franchise Leagues Committee, comprising Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh Cricket Board – Chair), Dr Rudie van Vuuren (Cricket Namibia), Devajit Saikia (BCCI), Richard Gould (England and Wales Cricket Board) and Todd Greenberg (Cricket Australia). 

Mauritius becomes ICC’s 111th Member

The ICC approved the admission of Mauritius as the 111th Member of the International Cricket Council, marking another important step in the continued global growth of the game. The addition of Mauritius reflects the ICC’s commitment to expanding cricket’s reach, strengthening its presence in emerging markets, and creating greater opportunities for participation and development across the world. 

Support for Cricket West Indies 

The Board approved a USD 12.82 million loan to Cricket West Indies to support the Member Board. 

ICC Membership Matters 

Cricket Canada 

The ICC Board approved reinstatement conditions for Cricket Canada, setting out the requirements that must be satisfied before its suspension from ICC membership can be lifted. Cricket Canada remains suspended until those conditions have been fully met. 

Sri Lanka Cricket 

The ICC Board received an update on Sri Lanka Cricket and noted progress towards a revised constitution. It reiterated the need for elections to be held as soon as possible and agreed that Sri Lanka Cricket would continue to be unable to be represented at ICC Board meetings for the time being. 

Bangladesh Cricket Board 

The ICC Board recognised the appointment of the newly elected president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board as the member’s full member director. 

France Cricket 

The ICC Annual General Meeting agreed to place France Cricket on notice for breaches of the ICC Membership Criteria.

India’s squad for the Tour of Zimbabwe announced

The Men’s Selection Committee has picked India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, to be played in Harare.

In a major turn of events, Sanju Samson has not been included in the squad following a string of underwhelming scores in Ireland and England, which resulted in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi making his international debut. The 15-year-old maintains his place in the side. Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav and Rinku Singh have been recalled to the international setup.

India have also given maiden international call-ups to Prabhsimran Singh, Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur. Meanwhile, Harsh Dubey, who recently represented the Men in Blue in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Afghanistan, has received his first call-up to the 20-over side.

India conclude their white-ball tour of England on July 19, just four days before their first game against Zimbabwe. All three matches of the series against the African outfit are set to be played at one venue, the Harare Sports Club in the capital city. The two sides are set to play three matches in a span of four days, ending India’s white-ball run with the Test series against Sri Lanka coming next.

Cricket Ireland has announced the appointment of Gary Wilson as Head Coach of the Ireland Men’s team.

Wilson, 40, represented Ireland 292 times across a distinguished 15-year international career before retiring in 2020. He moved into coaching shortly afterwards, initially leading the North West Warriors before joining the Ireland Men’s senior coaching set-up as Assistant Coach in 2022. He becomes the first Irish-born head coach of Ireland Men in over 30 years after John Wills in the early 1990s.

He now steps into the Head Coach role at an important point in the international cycle, with the squad building towards qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Wilson succeeds Heinrich Malan, who has stepped back from the position following discussions around the upcoming World Cup Qualifier cycle. Malan will work alongside Wilson over the coming month to ensure a smooth transition as the squad prepares for the ODI series against Afghanistan in August.

My coaching beliefs have been shaped by each coach I have worked with, and are centred around strong communication, building and maintaining relationships to get the best out of players, hard work, a player-centred focus, and setting high challenges for those who are driven to succeed. Above all, the power of the connection to the Shamrock is something I’ve witnessed and is something I intend on using to our advantage.

“I’d like to put on record my thanks to Heinrich — over the last 4 years he has allowed me to have the responsibility that has put me in a position to be ready for this role and for that I am truly grateful. We have had some great days in that time, and I wish him and his family all the very best for what comes next.”
