UCU Lady Canons dominate KCCA Leopards to secure 2026 NBL Finals berth

The UCU Lady Canons have qualified for the 2026 National Basketball League (NBL) Finals after a dominant 84-53 semifinal victory over the KCCA Leopards on Friday at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

With the win, the Lady Canons set up an intriguing seven-game finals series against the JT Lady Canons, matchup brimming with familiar faces, as the JT roster features several UCU alumni.

The Leopards came out firing early, opening with a 9-0 run driven by back-to-back perimeter shots from Susan Rebecca Aanyu and a three-pointer from Tracy Namugosa.

Lovi Najjuko finally got UCU on the board to narrow the gap to 9-3, but KCCA held onto a deserving five-point lead by the end of the opening quarter.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second period. UCU suffocated the Leopards’ offence, holding them to just eight points in the quarter to take a 33-27 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Canons took complete control. They stretched their lead to 19 points by the end of the third quarter before turning the final frame into a blowout to seal a massive 31-point victory.

Matrina Anyango led the charge for UCU with a standout double-double, scoring a game-high 27 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Sylvia Nakituuka added 20 points, while Igiraneza Christa Ciella chipped in with 11.

Aanyu was the sole bright spot for the Leopards, finishing as their only player in double figures with 21 points.
