Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools dominate 2026 FUBA Primary League with gold, silver, bronze sweep
Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools capped a remarkable campaign in the 2026 Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) Primary Schools League, lifting the U13 boys’ championship trophy after a thrilling 47–44 victory over Hill Preparatory School in a fiercely contested final.
The triumph was the highlight of an impressive tournament run that saw the school network showcase exceptional depth across three age divisions, ultimately capturing gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The U13 boys signalled their championship ambitions from their very first game, delivering a statement 90–9 home victory against Olive School Namugongo. Combining sharp attacking quality with steady defensive discipline, the team quickly established itself as the side to beat.
The U11 squad was equally dominant early on, securing a 29–14 win over St. Patrick Primary School Kira before cruising to a 40–12 victory against Olive School Namugongo.
Both matches took place at the newly built basketball facility at Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School Kira, which served as the network’s home venue throughout the campaign.
Meanwhile, the U13 girls made an emphatic start with a 24–3 win over Twinbrook Schools at St. Patrick Primary School, Kira, where the U13 boys later recorded another lopsided performance, overpowering Twinbrook 78–6.
Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools continued their dominant run through the knockout phase. In the quarter-finals, the U13 boys swept Kampala Community International School (KCIS) 82–12, while the U13 girls convincingly defeated KCIS 36–12, and the U11 boys outclassed KCIS 42–18.
Moving into the semi-finals, the U13 girls clinched their place in the decider with a hard-fought 28–22 victory over Beautiful Beginning School Ssisa. The U13 boys recorded a commanding 40–21 win against the same institution. Although the U11 team suffered a setback in their semi-final match, they quickly regrouped to focus on their podium ambitions.
On finals day, the marquee U13 boys’ final saw Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools hold their nerve in a high-intensity battle against Hill Preparatory School, securing the narrow 47–44 victory to claim the gold.
The U13 girls earned a deserved silver medal following a hard-fought 34–24 defeat to Hill Preparatory School, while the U11 team completed the podium sweep by defeating Hill Preparatory 38–20 in the third-place playoff to secure bronze.
The network’s standout performances were complemented by individual awards, as Kanadi Waleed was named the U13 Boys’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Nabwami Sonia claimed the U11 Girls’ MVP award. Federation officials presented participants with medals and certificates, recognising the discipline, work ethic, and sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament.
The league success follows strategic investments in sports infrastructure, notably the launch of a modern basketball court at Sir Apollo Kaggwa Primary School, Kira, earlier this year. This sporting triumph builds on an already strong year for co-curricular achievements, including a top-10 finish at the 2026 Father Grimes National Schools Chess Championship at Ntare School in Mbarara.
Operating across Kampala and Wakiso—with campuses in Kisaasi, Mengo, Nakasero, Kireka, Old Kampala, Kawempe, Kyengera, Kitintale, Kira, and Mugongo—Sir Apollo Kaggwa Schools continue to successfully integrate structured talent development alongside their core academic foundation.
