NSC pledges support for federations seeking foreign technical expertise

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has pledged to support national sports federations seeking foreign technical expertise to strengthen their teams and improve Nigeria‘s performance at international competitions.

NSC Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said the Commission was ready to provide the necessary backing to federations that identify their technical needs and present a convincing case for foreign assistance.

Olopade emphasised that the initiative must be driven by individual federations, explaining that each body must first determine the areas where foreign expertise would be most beneficial before seeking government intervention.

“Every federation must be clear about what it wants to achieve and the kind of technical support it needs. Once they can clearly identify those needs and make a strong case for them, the government, through the National Sports Commission, will be ready to throw its weight behind them,” Olopade said.

NFF Leads Request for Foreign Technical Assistance

He cited the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as an example, noting that the Commission had supported its request for foreign technical assistance for the Super Eagles.

According to Olopade, the NFF has also requested foreign technical support for the Super Falcons, with the Commission expressing its readiness to facilitate the process.

“Now that the NFF is requesting foreign technical support for the Super Falcons, we are ready and willing to hit the ground running. We want our national teams to have the best possible technical guidance, and where foreign expertise is required, we will give the necessary support,” he added.

Commission Targets Improved International Performance

The NSC chief reiterated the Commission’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for national sports federations to compete effectively on the global stage.

He explained that the Commission’s approach would focus on clearly defined technical needs, ensuring that government support is directed towards initiatives capable of improving performance and producing tangible results.

The move signals the NSC’s willingness to collaborate with sports federations to strengthen technical capacity, improve team development and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness across various sporting disciplines.
