Uganda Athletics is ready to host the 13th edition for the Source of the Nile Half Marathon in Jinja city on Sunday, 15th February 2026.

Addressing the media at the federation offices in Kampala on Thursday, the Assistant General Secretary, Uganda Athletics Namayo Mawerere and Publicist Abdallah Muhammed expressed readiness to host the event.

“Preparations to have a successful 13th edition Source of the Nile Half Marathon have been finalized. Our team is already on the ground to have a great event” Muhammed remarked.

“About 200 runners have registered for both men and men. It is entirely a 21KM event. This event will be to select athletes for future upcoming international events.” He added.

Mawerere asserted that the Source of the Nile Half Marathon remains one of the eagerly awaited events on the local calendar since 2009.

“The Source of the Nile Half Marathon is the major national competitions in the Busoga region. The event is also a good boost to the tourism promotion and income generation for the residents. The venue is set and we expect a fast race since all roads are well tarmacked now. We expect runners to put up a good show, better than last year’s.” Mawerere highlighted.

Start and finish will be at the Fast Gym in Jinja city.

All the districts from the different corners of the country will field participants as they eye slots on the national team prior to the world road running championship coming up September 2026 in Denmark.

The prize money ranges from 2,000,000/= for the winner. The second placed will get 1,500,000/= and the third will get 1,000,000/=, 800,000/= (fourth placed) and 600,000/= (for the 5th).

Chebet Sabir of Prisons won the event under the ladies’ gender last with a time of 1:12:25, beating Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Annet Chelangat (1:13:19).

Arua’s Mark Kiptoo (1:01:56) was outstanding male ahead of UWA’s Oscar Kibet (1:02:16).

The event is part of the international road races’ series.

Prize money:

1st: 2,000,000/=

2nd: 1,500,000/=

3rd: 1,000,000/=

4th: 800,000/=

5th: 600,000/=
