Namuwongo Blazers will be looking to bounce back from the season-opening defeat when they take on UCU Canons at Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Friday.

The Blazers were porous in transition defence as well as guarding the 3-point line in the loss to the Oilers, and against the Canons, who, this season, will rely on the transition and shooting, have to be better.

The Canons ran league newcomers UMU Flames off the court in the 79-64 victory and could do the same tonight against Blazers, but with more half-court sets to get some open outside shots.

Jimmy Otim and Flore Dushime ran the transition fairly well against UMU but will need to be more streetwise against a more experienced Blazers side. Zac Ekirapa, the leader of the Canons, will have some work on his hands against Fataki Nyembo.

Offensively, the Blazers did not shoot the ball particularly well and found lots of trouble breaking down Oilers’ zone defence. The Canons, who are relatively smaller, will mostly employ the zone to dare Blazers to shoot the ball and thus Ivan Muhwezi and Innocent Ochera should get some open looks.

The Blazers could play a bit of bully ball through James Okello and Arthur Wanyoto.

In the women’s division, the Lady Canons, who were never tested in their opening game of the season, will play Magic Stormers.

The Stormers were underwhelming in the defeat to UPDF Tomahawks and will be looking to play like a side that was in the playoff semifinals last year.
