Express hold Entebbe to barren stalemate

Express put up a resilient performance to earn a point off Entebbe UPPC as the two teams faced off on Saturday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

After losing several players in the ongoing transfer window, Express has been busy trying to reassemble a new team.

Richard Basangwa, Abdulai Raahid Kawawa, Muhammad Kagawa Ssenoga and Hakim Wandera all left to join NEC.

However, on pitch today, the depletion didn’t show with the Red Eagles looking good, marching pounf for pound for the entirety of the game.

A few minutes after kick-off, the skies opened up but the scoring chances remained few and far between.

In the 16th minute, Ambrose Kigozi got the visitor’s first chance when he made a run from his own half when a long ball was floated behind Express defence but he failed to control the ball well.

Two minutes later, Innocent Asiimwe came close for Express on the other hand but his strike at the edge of the box hit the side net.

In the 23rd minute, Entebbe had another attempt at goal but John Kokas Alou failed to head the ball at the far post.

Kokas had a similar chance, two minutes before the break but once again failed to find a connection to Issa Mubiru’s well-delivered cross.

At the start of the second half, Entebbe coach Abdallah Mubiru made changes, bringing on Noordin Sadik Bunjo and Julius Poloto.

Bunjo had a glorious chance minutes later but Express goalkeeper Khassim Hafizi made a wonderful save with his foot to deny him.

The result takes Entebbe UPPC to fourth place on 31 points while Express remain tenth on 17 points.

The two teams will return to action next week with Entebbe hosting UPDF on Tuesday, while Express will make a long trip to Yumbe to face Calvary FC.
