World football governing FIFA have effectively dashed the Super Eagles hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup after they confirmed DR Congo will feature in a final Playoffs in Mexico later this month.

FIFA are yet to announce a verdict on Nigeria’s petition against DRC for fielding several ineligible players in a final CAF World Cup Playoffs in November in Morocco.

DRC will now wait for the winners of the match between Jamaica and New Caledonia to battle for a place at the Mundial.

Observers said FIFA silence on Nigeria’s protest may well be that there is no substance in their petition.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to feature in an invitational tournament in Jordan during the time of the Playoffs in Mexico.
