Capacity Building: Over 40 players engage in open Taekwondo Poomsae challenge at Luzira Prisons
A total of 45 players were involved in the Open Taekwondo Poomsae challenge 2026 held at the Prisons Gym in Luzira, Kampala.
These came from five member clubs; Prisons, Police, Gulu University, Kakira and Makerere University.
The event was organized by the Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF) as witnessed by the famous Korean Master Jea Seung Mun.
The technical committee came up with the list of senior male and female Taekwondo poomsae contestants in each color belt categories taken from 1st -4thpositions.
The rewards ranged from watches, plates, cups, hot water bottles, rechargeable lights and to certificates.

Individuals:
Makerere University’s Alpha Ssenyonjo came top in the seniors colour belts for the male Poomsae individual category; ahead of Allan Zziwa (Makerere University), Isaac Olara (Prisons) and another Prisons’ player, Richard Tabu.
For the Black Belt Male Poomsae individual; Christopher Mugweri of Police was outstanding ahead of Bosco Charity (Prisons).
Makerere University’s Nasserdine Abdul-Karim followed and James Odoch was fourth.
In the seniors’ colour belt (female) cluster, Anna Namuga (Makerere University) was best ahead of the Prisons’ duo of Lucky Alimo and Irene Adong.
Gulu University’s Hellen Lakot was fourth.
Team event:
Makerere University won the seniors’ black belt team category as Prisons were runners up.
In the colour belt team event (Poomsae), Prisons toppled the rest with Makerere University and Gulu University taking second and third positions respectively.
The organizing secretary of Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF) Master Mark Ogwang hailed the competitive spirit from all the participants, applauding the judges and other officials for the collective effort to have a smooth championship.
