Super Eagles coaches stay for now, fly to Turkey
Super Eagles local assistant coaches, Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, will keep their positions for the time being and so fly out with the rest of the backroom staff to Turkey Monday night for friendlies against Iran and Jordan.
The position of both local coaches has come under closer scrutiny by the NFF technical committee amid discussions that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle needs proven Nigerian assistants besides his hand-picked aides.
“Neither of these assistant coaches can step in to lead the Super Eagles should such an opportunity arise, and that is why the need to look at better qualified coaches on the home front,” a top official said.
SCORENigeria has been informed that the technical committee will soon meet with the Super Eagles coach to discuss the best assistants he could get locally.
Ogunmodede, who recently bagged a UEFA B license from Scotland, made history when he led Remo Stars to win their first-ever NPFL championship last season.
However, his fortunes have gone downhill ever since as Remo Stars have struggled for survival this term leading to the appointment of one-time Super Eagles assistant coach Usman Abdallah as the head coach of the Ikenne outfit.
Ilechukwu is in charge of Enugu Rangers, who are among the front runners for the league title this season.
