USA pip Australia to join Mexico at the round of 32 | 2026 FIFA World Cup

United States of America (USA) defeated Australia 2-0 during Group D of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday afternoon at the Seattle stadium.

Cameron Robert Burges’ own goal opened the scoring business for USA in the 11th minute with Alexander Michael Freeman heading home the second with two minutes to the climax of the opening half.

Burges of Swansea city football club booted the ball past his own goalkeeper Patrick Beach in the 11th minute as USA took the lead.

After a VAR check, Villareal’s Freeman was given the headed goal for USA’s second on the afternoon.

From their comprehensive opening 4-1 victory over Paraguay at the Los Angeles stadium, USA now has six points and has booked their berth to the round of 32 stage.

Folarin Balogun struck a brace with Damian Bobadilla’s own goal and a late Giovanno Reyna’s strike completing the goal galore for the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosts.

Mauricio got Paraguay’s consolation goal on the day.

USA joins co-hosts Mexico at the round of 32.

On Saturday morning, Turkey takes on Paraguay at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara.

Germany swiftly recovered from a goal down to outsmart Ivory Coast 2-1 in Group E at the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Toronto stadium on Saturday evening.

Deniz Undav struck a brace to take his tournament tally to three goals, same as Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Ivory Coast had shocked the four-time World Cup winners (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014) with Franck Kessie’s goal on the half hour mark.

The African ambassadors bossed the opening stanza 1-0.

Germany opened their group E campaign in a ruthless manner, humiliating debutants Curacao 7-1 at the Houston stadium.

In this match; Kai Havertz led with a brace with the other goals coming from Felix Kalu Nmecha, Nico Cedric Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Christopher Brown and Deniz Undav.

Livano Shyrpn Liomar Comenencia got the consolation, a historical goal for Curacao.

Curacao face Latin Americans Ecuador on Sunday morning at the Kansas city stadium in Kansas city.

The last group E matches will be concurrently played on 25th June 2026.

Curacao tussles Ivory Coast at the Philadelphia stadium and Germany shall take on Ecuador at New York New Jersey stadium in East Rutherford.

Argentina is the reigning champion.

Netherlands whip Sweden to go top of Group F | 2026 FIFA World Cup

  • Netherlands 5-2 Sweden

  • Sweden 5-1 Tunisia

Netherlands earned their first victory at the on-going 2026 FIFA World Cup in style, recording a dominant 5-1 victory over Sweden at the Houston stadium on Saturday evening.

Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo each scored a brace for the Dutch whilst Crysencio Summerville added the other goal.

Anthony Elanga pulled back a goal for Sweden who had themselves bossed 5-1 over Tunisia.

Gakpo was named man of the match.

The victory gave Netherlands maximum points as they ascended the summit of Group F with four points.

They had earlier opened with a 2-all draw with Japan. Skipper Virgi Van Djik and Summerville scored for Netherlands.

Keito Nakamura and Daichi Kamada replied in the same currency for Japan.

Now, Netherlands has to play Tunisia in the final group game.

Argentina is the reigning champion.

South Africa rallies to earn a point off Czechia | 2026 FIFA World Cup

FIFA World Cup 2026 (Group A):

  • Czechia 1-1 South Africa

South Africa recovered from a goal down to draw 1-all with Czechia during Group A of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Atlanta stadium on Thursday.

Michal Sadilek gave Czechia the lead on 6 minutes.

South Africa replied with 7 minutes to end the game through Teboho Mokoena’s well-drilled penalty.

Sadilek, who features for Czech First League club Slavia Prague, finished past goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams inside the first six minutes of the game.

South Africa returned a completely better and improved side in the final 45 minutes.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Mokoena was very composed to score the equaliser, sending the goalkeeper, Matej Kovar, the wrong way.

This was the first point earned by Czechia and South Africa in the championship, having lost their opening duels 1-2 and 0-2 to South Korea and Mexico, respectively.

Julian Andres Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored for Mexico past South Africa in the official opening match of the tournament, played before a fully packed Mexico City stadium.

Mexico and South Africa lock horns later at the Estadio Guadalajara in Zapopan with maximum points securing any of the sides to the round of 32 stage.

Last group A duels:

The two final Group A matches will be played on 25th June 2026.

South Africa will play South Korea at Estadio Monterrey.

On the same day and time, Czechia will take on Mexico at the Mexico City stadium in Mexico City.

Argentina are the reigning champions of this tournament, which has been played since 1930.

The 2026 edition is the first to be co-hosted by three countries (Mexico, Canada and the United States of America) with an expanded version of 48 countries.
