Sunday April 5, 2026
- Royal Park, Butema 3pm
Kitara and Express lock horns in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter final with a semi-final berth at stake at the Royal Park, Butema on Sunday.
The hosts will be favourites heading into the game against the Red Eagles being a cup game, they can’t take anything for granted.
Wasswa Bbosa understands what is stake and is aware of the threat posed by the joint record holders.
“They are a great side with big history and we can’t get complacent,” Bbosa told the club media. “They have had a wholesome change in the squad adding over ten players and that changes the dynamics but we shall be ready,” he added.
Former Express captain Emmanuel Wasswa takes on former pay masters and says the team is ready.
“We are happy to reach this stage. Hosting Express on Sunday is an opportunity we intend to seize fully. The team is very set and ready to deliver for our fans,” Emmanuel Wasswa said.
Muhammad Shaban could return to the side following an injury sustained in the league game against UPDF but all eyes will be on form George Ssenkaaba and Patrick Kaddu.
Express will hope Kenneth Kimera, Marvin Nyanzi and Lawrence Bukenya are in fine form.
The sides last met in the competition during the 2018 round of 32 at Hoima’s Boma playground. On that occasion, Alfred Leku put Express ahead before Derrick Tekkwo levelled, forcing penalties. Kitara ultimately prevailed 4-3 in the shootout, eliminating the record Cup winners.
