Uganda’s U-17 national team (The Cubs) rallied from a goal down on two different moments to a earn a point with Cote d’Ivoire in the 2-all draw during Group B at the AFCON U-17 championship in Morocco.

Koudougnon Drebo and Souleyman Kone scored for the West Africans with Henry Muhoozi and a late-late well struck penalty from Arafat Ibanda restoring parity for the Cubs.

Drebo scored in the 25th minute with the VAR confirming the goal after a review to take the lead at the Field 11 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat city on Tuesday afternoon.

Uganda equalized four minutes to the half time break through a well struck free-kick by Muhoozi.

Kone restored Cote d’Ivoire’s lead in the 79th minute, another goal confirmed by the VAR following an off-side suggestion.

With the minutes trickling down, Uganda grabbed the equalizer through Ibanda’s penalty, confirmed by the VAR as the East Africans deservedly earned a point.

Uganda will now engage in a play-off for the FIFA World Cup place.

Côte d’Ivoire tops Group B with seven points. Uganda opened with a 3-0 victory over Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and fell 0-1 to Cameroon.

The game was a tough one. It was a game of different halves. They blocked all spaces in the first half but fought gallantly in the second half to at least get an equalizer. The boys fought well and showed that they are capable of playing every team in the world.
