Uganda Cranes friendly against Zanzibar cancelled

The friendly game between Uganda and Zanzibar has been called off at the eleventh hour. The decision for the cancellation according to the Zanzibar Football Federation was beyond their control.

FUFA has confirmed receiving the communication from their counterparts.

“Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has notified Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) of the cancellation of the 11th June 2026 Centenary friendly at New Amaan Complex due to government health precautionary directives.

ZFF stated ‘The decision was beyond our control. We value our friendship and remain committed to rescheduling the match soon.’

The recent outbreak of Ebola has seen Uganda register cases, including two deaths and this has hit the country across many spheres, including sports.

Last week, Uganda Cranes had camped in Morocco and were supposed to play two friendly games against Tanzania and Mauritania.

The two games were called ofc by the Moroccan authority citing pulbic health concerns.

FUFA swiftly arranged for a friendly game against Zanzibar to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the ZFF slated to take place on 11th June.

Coach Paul Put summoned a team of 22 players, largely composed of those who feature in the Uganda Premier League and trained at MTN-Omondi Lugogo on Monday and Tuesday.

Calling off the fruendly game means Uganda Cranes have not been in action since December last year when they played at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
