Farouk Miya: Vipers confirm the return of prodigal son

Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC has confirmed the signing of Uganda Cranes forward, Farouk Miya.

The development was confirmed today, Tuesday, July 21, 2026 via the club’s official social media platforms.

“We are pleased to announce the return of Farouk Miya to the club ahead of the 2026/27 season,” the statement partly reads.

The experienced forward left the club in January 2016 in a mucky transfer that took him to Belgian side Standard Liege.

According to the reports, Vipers pocketed a record fee of $500,000, which launched the facelift of St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende. In the 10 years spent away, Miya has played for several clubs such as Mouscron (Belgium), FK Sabail (Azerbaijan), HNK Gorica (Croatia), Konyaspor (Turkey), Rizepor (Turkey) and PFC Lviv (Ukraine).

In the 2014/15 campaign, he scored 20 goals in 49 appearances, helping the Venons to lift the UPL title.

Miya becomes Vipers’ sixth signing after the acquisition of Nicholas Mwere, Joel Sserunjogi, Jacques Mangoba, Loyce Mbaba and Ceasar Manzoki.

The UPL defending champions continue to strengthen their side ahead of the CAF Champions League, but before they will take part in the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Kigali, Rwanda.
